I've come to accept that a number of UConn fans only care about football. If that's how you feel, than the Big East sucks and the basketball schools are evil. I remember a time UConn was very thankful to be in the Big East, basketball has done pretty well. I suspect most UConn fans care more about basketball, just a hunch.
Going to a conference that has it's heart in North Carolina may not be all that. It hasn't been so great for BC.
Basketball is the sport I care most about
by far. And that is why, right now, I think a split is a terrible decision (maybe last year, a all sports Syracuse, Pitt, UConn, WVU, Louisville, Cincy with jetsam conference would have worked).
But its also why I want them to get into the ACC. It will give stability to the whole department and help improve basketball. As for BC, and the U, you are right. But BC basketball was never terribly good in the BE, and they were in a couple of ACC title games as well as performing very well on the basketball side when they had Dudley.
As for the basketball school--I don't really blame them. All of the original BE schools have some strong histories (even if they've been weak in some cases since the early 90s). I don't like leaving the BE. In a perfect world, UConn wouldn't have to.
And if UConn gets into the ACC, I will
still root for the BE over pretty much anyone (including ACC schools). I'd want to continue to play Villanova, Georgetown, PC, etc. I think that UConn has been loyal to the BE perhaps to a fault, at least compared to Syracuse, Pitt, BC, etc.
