March General CBB Discussion Thread

Let's see Miami get in while someone like Ohio State or Indiana gets bumped. That's what it's all about.

Makes sense.

They’ve been playing with fire for a while now though. Ohio probably should’ve won that last game.
Yeah they've been winning 1 possession games for about a month straight. Even if you're a really good team (which they're not) it's tough to not slip up once

Iowa St and Tech is a high level game.

Anderson and Watts for Tech are a pleasure to watch.

This is the first time UMass has been even tangentially relevant to the national basketball scene since Bruiser Flint was coach

Edit: Apparently they made the tournament in 2014? No memory of that whatsoever

I'm assuming Miami will get in, but I don't know how I feel about it. They played a terrible schedule in a terrible conference and had many close games. Part of me thinks they should penalize the MAC (and Miami) for being bad and having a conference tournament. It's the risk you take being in a one bid league and not playing a strong out of conference tournament.

Seton Hall has no shot.

I think if they get to the title game they have a shot

Seton Hall is far end outside bubble. They'd like need to win the BET to even be considered, and if they do that, they're auto bid anyway. A win in the semis wouldn't be enough.

Watts is what I hope Landrew becomes. He was on Hurley's radar prior to AK coming back - would have been a get.

UMass beat Miami of Ohio. Lunardi has Ohio still in the tournament which pushes Auburn out for now.

How did Frank Martin go from coaching K State and making a final 4 at South Carolina to coaching UMass in the MAC?

Also, why didn't UMass parlay any of their success with Calipari and those Camby teams into more success? If you're going to cheat go all in. It's like they dabbled in it and then decided to fold up their basketball program.

Bad follow-up coach and not in a power conference.

now we gotta hear one of the worst humans alive Bruce Pearl on TV up until Selection Sunday argue why Miami should be left out while bummy Auburn should be in
LOL. I paid particular attention to the Auburn score yesterday hoping they would lose because bracketologists on TV were saying they were in as the last 4, ugh. I don't want to see these mediocre P5 teams with losing conference records getting in the NCAAT.

As others have said, it's not particularly shocking Miami OH lost to UMass. If I recall, they barely escaped with a win over UMass earlier this season to go along with other narrow victories they have had.

Frank Martin's coaching career path is interesting to say the least. Going from coaching in arenas with many thousands of fans and name brand P5 schools in the games to then coaching in the MAC in rinky dink gyms where it looks like they struggle to break 1,000 fans is quite the change.

As for UMass, they wanted to keep Calipari and I remember his interview with Dick Vitale in 1996. Calipari stated he had no intentions of ever leaving Amherst. However, he must have known about the NCAA investigation into the illicit payments and such made to Camby was picking up steam. When the New Jersey Nets came knocking Calipari answered and saw that as the perfect opportunity to leave unscathed. I don't remember off the top of my head the punishment to UMass for that. For me it's like a Twighlight Zone experience seeing any UMass games in the Mullins Center on TV with almost all the seats being empty and comparing it to the memories of the mid 90s where that place was packed and loud and UMass was in the top 5 in many weeks.
