March 29, 1999 - UConn is the Top Dog

What a night. My most enjoyable, in person sporting event that I’ve ever attended.
This is what’s left of the shirt I wore that night. I just can’t seem to throw it away.

Looks like 20 plus years of yard work.

I was at the game as well. What a great night! Other than the W, of course, the high point of the night was going to a nearby bar after the game and seeing several of the female Duke fans crying.

Absolutely. After it wore out from constant wear, I ended up wearing it while doing yard work, painting, etc.
I’ll find use for it until the day I die.

I still have the many newspaper stories from various sources from the day after 77-74. You did a great job of consolidating them, Deepster! Awesome job!
One of my favorites is Wilbon’s take. To paraphrase: The result wasn’t a fluke. There were no tricks or gimmicks. It was the Huskies playing hard nosed hoops. They took it right at Duke and came out on top.

That’s awesome! I was just looking through that the other day. Glad you still enjoy it!

Back then I put together a document with every article I could find on the pregame and actual 1999 natty. I still have it in PDF form. If anyone is interested I can figure out how to get it to you. I don’t even remember but it’s like 75-100 pages.

I recall a crowd going back to the UConn hotel and watching the game all over again in the lounge, cheering as if we were watching it live. Only 1 hour of sleep before getting up for an early flight back to Bradley.
