Malachi Smith undergoes knee procedure, back in August

I don't think Furphy is more physically ready than an average freshman. He's not skinny, but he lacks serious strength like most freshman. He's got a lot of baby fat on him.
He’s in much better shape now than he was last year. Much leaner with better muscle tone and he’s maintained his weight.

I've watched all of his most recent games and will need to agree to disagree on this one. He's definitely slimmed down but he certainly doesn't look like a D1 athlete.

I guess, but a lot of the taller, stringy white guys look that way coming in. They often leave that way too, regardless of results. I feel better that he's 6'6" and stringy and not 5'11" and stringy. We'll see. We need someone to fill that role.

He hasn’t looked stringy at all today

Was actually thinking Furph might step in there over Alec. His PT/development is a higher priority to the staff than Millender
Yeah i would love a lefty PG but I hope Malachi Smith will be fine. At least we are talking about back up PG and not the starter but still it is not great news this early on to hear this. We have had issues with our NYC guards having knee injuries from Kemba, Diarra last year and now Smith this year.

Nah he still moves pretty dang slow and it will be exploited defensively. Next step to be a complete player is in the weight room
One way another, we’ve really got something to work with here.
He adds a lot when you look at the roster and he can be viewed as a contributor rather than just developmental. I’m optimistic.

Furphy has acknowledged that he needs to improve his strength-speed-athleticism in college. Despite his current challenges in that area- and even against the USA today- He can get to his spots and get his shot off. His stroke at the free throw suggests accuracy and confidence. And he can get buckets when needed. Defense will benefit from the SnC workouts.

The commentator mentioned in telecast that he can't wait to get to UConn-Start working out-Meet his new teammates- And to play for Coach Hurley. Will be a key bench guy by mid-year once he adjusts to the speed and physicality of CBB. Gonna be a fun ride with him at UConn.

Malachi could be getting a miniscus shave or just scar tissue removal. Back in August is fine and should make a full recovery.

Are we really talking about Furphy at the 1 and not a single Silas mention?

Yeah we all collectively forgot he existed, thanks.

Not to cross the posts but in yesterday's U19 game (Australia vs Cameroon) and the earlier Australia vs USA - Furphy got a decent point guard time which is kinda interesting to our PG depth conversation here.

Not that he is a pure PG, but seeing him get time at that position, and he was pretty good bringing the ball up and getting the first pass away before posting at a wing position for screens to be a true or ghost target.

IMHO he was on par with Solo Ball's ability to bring it up and dish to get the action started.
