Malachi was huge in our early out of conference schedule and then things went off the rails for him in Big East play. It looked like his confidence was shattered and he couldn't get out of his own way. He's been huge this whole tournament when thrust into playing way more than ever expected because of Demary's injury and he's been great the whole tournament for us. Major props to him.

Totally agree. Hurley said before the Tournament that he thought Malachi would play very well, and he was right. He has been the unsung hero for UConn in this Tournament along with Ross' defense. No reason he can't continue that play in Indianapolis. Am sure Illinois will be prepping for payback from 2 years ago. Should be a great game!

And just as importantly, he was the only other guy on the floor for us other than Tarris that did not look like a deer in headlights in the 1st half. If not for Malachi and Tarris, the 2nd half comeback would have been impossible, because we would have been down by more than 15 points at halftime.

Malachi has stepped up hugely in this tournament, on the biggest stage. Great job Malachi! You have earned this trip to Indianapolis as much as anyone!

Where are all the posters who have been saying Malachi was a "miss" in the portal???...without his play in the tourney, there would be no Final 4 with Silas at less than 100%... Chew on his stats..25 mpg... 4.5 ppg.. 22 assists and 4 turn overs..Stellar!!!
This is a perfect time to pinpoint where narratives change. Whatever narrative we spun about malachi, bray and solo is no longer valid. We will look back as if nobody called them out before. Next year it'll be "why can't we get a back up pg like malachi" "SOS"- Aerosmith

Solo with the steal and the finish in the second half was so huge. Guy never stopped giving it everything

Props to Smith. I can’t believe Demary only played 22 mins today. Props to Reibe with the basket and assist in his 7 mins not to mention giving cam a black eye. Last but not least props to Solo. His handle has noticeably improved and he’s been getting to the line more when his 3 isn’t going. I’d love to see him continue to improve both those aspects of his game next year.

Great point. Even with all his struggles shooting the ball, he was a positive guy on the bench cheering on his teammates. So happy to see him celebrating with Dan Hurley after a big three against MSU and get the steal and breakaway dunk tonight.

Love him and love his energy!!

Can someone tell him running on to the court to hug Mullins before the game was over could have cost us big time!

He definitely stole some points tonight. Teams have been begging our point guards to penetrate the last few games after Demary's injury, and Malachi did that a few times tonight.

Duke was just straight up guarding him with Cameron Boozer a few times. Malachi had to make that pay.

He had 14 points against Illinois in November, probably will get the minutes to do it again

It's a good thing Hurley and coaching staff put no stock in the narratives posited on this board and believe in their players as they believe in him!!...Long live his loyalty to his players... In Hurley , I trust!!!!

I agree that Malachi was a huge part of the win. Props to him! He had UConn’s only three pointer in the first half. Then finally Demary hit back to back threes from opposite corners ending that drought.

That was a big play from Solo for sure, but I think his biggest play of the game was getting that offensive rebound at the 1:32 mark when UConn was down 70-65. He got fouled and made 1 of 2 FTs. If he doesn't get that rebound and Duke does then they can, in the best case scenario for UConn, burn 25 seconds minimum off the clock even if they don't score on their possession. That would leave UConn down 5 with 1 minute left. At worst Duke could get a 2 pt or 3 pt basket and stretch the lead to 7-8 points with UConn having 1 minute left. None of those scenarios is appealing for UConn and would put Duke's chances of winning at 95% or higher.

And in the final four he gets to play a familiar opponent. Illinois at the garden was his best game of the year. 14 points 9 assists and that heroic 4 point play

Big shoutout to Malachi. He’s done this through nothing but heart and passion. I’m sure Silas will enjoy the week break to recover the ankle more (he definitely looked healthier yesterday), but I hope we get Malachi a lot of minutes to continue his great play
