The kid deserves his own thread after the way he played yesterday. We need him. He showed in that game what is capable of. Handled the ball exceptionally well, was aggressive to the hoop when he needed to be and hit his 3s when he was open.

As Hurley said in the post game, social media has been shi**ing on him and while he has had a frustrating year, the kid has been positive all year and never complains. Was really great to see him play well and with potentially 3 games in 3 days, we need solid minutes from his at MSG and likely 8 - 10 minutes each game.

So hopefully the crap about him being mis-evaluated by Hurley stops and the Board gets behind him going forward! Again, we need him and he is capable of giving the team solid minutes…Sure he gained a lot of confidence after last game and think he can build on it!

He certainly has the talent, he’s just not built for the Big East. Hoping he can provide us some good minutes in the NCAA tourney and keep Diarra fresh. He definitely brings some offensive firepower when he stays aggressive.

I feel like if we can get wide open shots for anyone on this team, we should be able to get them for him too... Not much time to figure it out at this point, but he might still have some flashes left in him.

His "good" game was mediocre. We've gotten enough sample size: doesn't have enough size, doesn't have enough strength, doesn't run the offense. SH cleared out and 1v1 when he was in.
I hope he makes some big shots somehow, but you can't play him if you want to defend or run the offense with anything close to the efficiency we have come to expect. It's just not there and that's ok!

Seems like a good dude, but he might not be suited to this level/ pace of play. Glad he had a decent game, but it’s SH.

If he can do that against a team that pressures like St J..then we’ll have seen a metamorphosis

He had a good game yesterday. He was still reluctant to shoot open shots, but definitely better. Shooters need to shoot.
I agree with this. He has the talent to score which is a main reason he was recruited here. He needs to get the confidence to let it rip when he gets open looks.

Well here is the situation. Nowell was put in the game against a terrible SH team and pulled rather quickly. The offense stalled, his handle and inability to drive and get any type of shot off or make the offense work noticeable so it went to Mahaney with experience and know how and he did pretty good.
Unless we have a blowout I don’t expect to see much Nowell going forward now it will likely be Mahaney who has showed he’s the better option even if out of position.
We’ve had posters here crying all year for Nowell to be used then he got his chance yesterday. But honestly he’s looked no better in the last 4 games when he’s been out there.

Because there is absolutely no further opportunity to reconstitute the roster within this season, any post that argues outside that reality is a waste. Posts of this ilk are worse than any deficiency they attempt to identify or attach to any player, no matter how perceptively or elegantly they are rendered.

We have our players for, essentially, a maximum of 4 consecutive weekend tournaments. The first is guaranteed, and the schedule is established. It will take 3 wins to emerge victorious. The outcome will affect seeding for the following weekend, which will require 2 wins to get to the next weekend against opponents from a set of possibilities that will be known upfront. Same set of circumstances will follow for the following weekend. Every game is single elimination.

It's preposterous to regard a current player in any other context until the season has exhausted itself. That being the case, it makes best sense to speak only supportively of Aidan Mahaney's upcoming play, one game at a time. That argues in favor of your bringing your personal best to each post.

Mahaney is going to get a handful of minutes in these March games. All I really want to see is him being aggressive. We all know his limitations but I don't think it's a coincidence that he was aggressive yesterday in driving to the rim and taking open 3's and he had his best game. His 1 miss was a 3 he hesitated on and then was great afterwards

I have to disagree is was a “mediocre” game. 10 points in 14 minutes with 2 assists and only 1 turnover is a very good game off the bench. Mahaney has several good games this year. His problem has been ball handling when faced with physical ball pressure. The past 2 games have been his best all season at handling the pressure. If he can come off bench and run the offense without turning the ball over that will be a huge boost for this team. The points are just a bonus.
I think if the pressure no longer bothers him like it did earlier in the season, we might see the player he was at St Mary’s.

At one point you could hear the crowd collectively yell SHOOT IT! to Mahaney when he had an open look. Lol. Pretty sure he did finally shoot it, too.
