Maya vs DT & Griner.

Maya 19 points in the first half.

Griner 16.

Mercury with a double digit lead at the half.

Is Seimone playing?

She has a sore knee and is not playing.

Maya with 19 in the first half. BG with 16 points and 9 rebounds. She could drop 40 on Minny if she gets the ball passed to her.

They have looked like they're trying to get it to her this game. They threw her an alley-oop!

Griner could gain a lot by watching video and reading everything about Bill Russell.

OMG... and the Mercury are up double digits at the half smh. whatever is working and you want to go away from it so that BG can "get hers"?

My apologies to Diana Taurasi...

I didn't describe her as a "Legend" when she played in Washington earlier this year.

I did not want anything changed. I simply stated that she could drop 40 in Minny if she gets the ball, which she could have. But I'm happy with 27 points and 18 rebounds.

Simma down, now.

What a great win for Phoenix. Tremendous balance with BG, DT Bonner and Deupree. They are going to be hard to beat this year.

Maya was magnificent with 36 points. But she and Whalen were pretty much it for Minny.

Minn. certainly misses Brunson.

Bingo! This has been Minny's Achille's Heel this year. Hopefully when Brunson returns she makes an immediate impact. Monica Wright's return hasn't been felt yet.

And Seimone being out as well certainly did not help; there is another prolific scorer

Minny has been able to outscore people even with inconsistent interior D and rebounding (they are really up and down on that note), but with Seimone out last night that wasn't happening, despite Maya's heroics.

Minny fans like me take heart in the fact that they have been as competitive as they have without Brunson. As long as you qualify for the playoffs, any team in the "W" can go all the way. Being a low seed is not a big deal (see Atlanta). The big Q will be do we have a healthy Brunson and will she have shaken off the rust by the time the playoffs roll around? Assuming no other injuries of course. If Brunson is healthy and productive, Minny will have a good shot at repeating. If not, it will be difficult but not impossible if the scorers are firing on all cylinders.

I have to wonder if Brunson will make it back this year. If she is still in pain at this point I can see this as a Penny Taylor type injury that could nag her until she takes some extended time off.

Speaking of Penny, how did she look?

Well they at least projected she would be out for this [current] timeframe + a few more weeks yet, so it's not as though she has tried coming back but had difficulties etc.

So I take your point but at least things are on schedule. Wright and Peters were out for approximately their expected recuperation periods so we will hope Rebecca will stay on schedule as well. Luckily in her case, the rust will not (IMO) be quite as big of a deal as it would be for an offensive specialist who really needs a lot of 'touch.' Brunson's jumper is very good and could take a while to reappear but her game is built on grit, athleticism and toughness. She should be able to contribute with those in short order, assuming she's back to 100%.

Penny has not been very impressive. In the game yesterday she had two points and quite frankly is a non-factor on offense. I would stick with Phillips as a starter and bring Taylor off the bench.

You seem like you're able to hear a lot about what's going on with Griner.

How come she didn't keep up with the Monster Dunks like she made last Memorial Day?

I know she got hurt last year but if she kept doing that it would go a long way to add more fans.

I think Penny is slowly returning to form..but it's slow. Every game I see her playing more like Penny.

I think though, that she starts instead of Phillips for defensive reasons. When Griner was out of the game, the perimeter defense of Dee, Penny, and Bonner was..horrible. Playing all three with Griner allows them to play up tight and if a player gets around them, Griner is there. (Sort of like what the Uconn men did with Hasheem Thabeet.) Phillips is the best perimeter defender they have, and I think Sandy wants her in when Brittney is out.
