Maya's season averages: 13.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 3.2 apg, 45.6% FG

Like I said earlier this season, I feel like Maya's been very underwhelming so far. Not bad by any stretch, but I expected a lot more out of her in her second year.

I think her season averages are decent. Averaging 13 points on a team as deep as the Lynx is pretty good. And you can typically count on her to fill a stat sheet. What I have been a little perplexed by is her role on this team. In the Lynx's system, she still seems to be simply a spot up shooter who can spread the floor. And she is good at that role. But when you have a 6'0 player who is as strong and as athletic as Maya, I don't see how you don't utilize her in different areas.

It's tough seeing her floating outside the arc guarded by players like Becky Hammon and Kristi Tolliver. She needs to post them up and take advantage of that mismatch. And why they don't run her off some screens and set her up for a midrange jumper off the curl is beyond me. Maya isn't the one to be creative off the dribble a la Augustus, but she has the ability to rise above a defender. About 42% of her shots this year have been 3 point attempts. That number can and should be a little lower IMO. I'm sure she's just doing what is asked of her, and it has worked for the Lynx, but...

I agree with Goodies07...not quite sure of the team dynamic that's keeping Maya out on the wing so much. Except on defense, her athleticism is being wasted. The poor camera work on the WNBA Live Access makes it very hard to see the big picture on the computer feed. I watched the final game between the Lynx and the Dream last year in Atlanta though, and I was impressed by how balanced the offense was run and how well everyone played defense. This year, it seems Seimone is being doubled the minute she gets the ball. If they are trying to emphasize her more to get her the MVP trophy, it's backfiring. That said, the energy on defense doesn't seem to be there over the last few games either. Maybe everyone's taking a breather before the Olympics?

In the WNBA, Maya is not nearly as physically imposing. Maya, being nobody's fool, stays out on the wing so that she can play another day.

What exactly are your expectations? These are decent stats on the best team in the WNBA.

To put it in perspective, Augustus is "only" averaging 16.6ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.1 apg, 50% FG. The LYNX are just so deep (5 players averaging 9.8ppg or better), and have been, in general, so much better than their opponents, that the starters share more and play less.

LA is not struggling at home, they are 7-1 in LA. Not going to get upset about a 6 point loss in LA.
Thanks for noting that. They had lost 3 in a row, but 2 of those were in San Antonio and Tulsa. Losing to Tulsa on the road and beating Minnesota at home gives the home court more weight than I would have thought.

For one, I was expecting her to be better than she was as a rookie.

I never said she's had a bad season, because she hasn't. But I did expect her to be a top 10 player this year, which I'm not too sure she is right now.

Well, considering the fact that she is the youngest player on the National Team, all 12 of whom are in the WNBA, maybe it's too soon to expect Maya to be a top 10 player.
