What mid major strikes you as a good job?
 
Decent chance it gets announced tomorrow, or at least agreed upon/leaked tomorrow. Unless he decides their NIL or compensation just isn't good enough at the last hour.

How would this affect UConn? Assume he’d finish out the season? Any way this negatively impacts our performance?

There are plenty of crappy P4 jobs. BC is particularly moribund and poorly supported.

He's not getting those jobs. They hire head coaches that have won previously and in the NIL era, those jobs with high NIL resources relative to their conference and level with a track record of getting guys to good high major jobs are extremely in-demand. (Well I don't know about St. Mary's for sure, they haven't had to hire anyone in 25 years). But the other 3, the last 11 non-interim coaches they've hired between them have been previous head coaches.

(Assuming you meant South Florida. San Francisco does hire assistants, but basically only in the Kyle Smith tree.)

Nooooooooooooooooooo! This is terrible. The only school I hate more than Duke is BC for blackballing us. and he’s taking Bill with him to boot. How could he not get a better job why couldnt PC or Butler hire him!!

Yes I meant South Florida.

USF is going to feel shy about hiring a HC with HC experience because they just lost their recent one to freakin Providence. Yes, the BE is a better conference than the American, but Providence?

If you're USF, why not roll the dice on a guy like Murray for a few years until he springboards upward?
 
I've heard from a couple different sources that Murray to BC is very strong. Sources said he was looking for a job in a pro city where college basketball is not the only game in town to give him some time to quietly build his program. If that is true, then he sure picked the right city! He also wanted a firm commitment to a large NIL pool. I don't know if BC has the resources to meet that demand, but then again Bill O'Brien has said they are committed to raising the NIL pool for football.

They're not going to feel shy. They won the conference regular season and championship in the guy's first year. They'll hire another head coach, he'll bring a couple key guys with him and get a couple more in the portal because they're hiring someone with cachet, because they have an in-demand job for the best of the lower mid majors with upward trajectory and juice, and they'll contend or win the league right away again.

You hire Luke Murray, he's not bringing anyone with him. Maybe a de-committed recruit. Maybe, if you're lucky. (Like Shelton Henderson and Jai Lucas). You're probably building a whole roster from scratch (presumably your whole roster hit the portal either to go with or because they were too bad to go with the previous guy), and you're asking a guy with no head coaching experience to manage that crisis right away. It's a little better if you fired the previous guy, couple guys might stick around if they like the new guy.

You're probably right. I'm still in denial that they lost their HC to freakin Providence. I know fans of the Big East wax poetic re: the originals, but Providence?

Say what you want about Ed Cooley, but he activate the fanbase and they have money now plus the Big East no football revshare.

It's a Catholic school in a state with a population of 1 million. Tampa Metro area is 3 million.

College basketball is certainly not the only game in town here in Boston, but I think a better way to phrase it rhetorically is "is college basketball even a game in town here?". Boston College is beyond irrelevant here and they really don't have good fan support and very little commitment to NIL is going towards that team.

Selfishly I want to keep Luke Murray. Unselfishly, I want the best for Luke Murray if he is seeking a head coaching job. Boston College ain't the one he should make the leap to. If he does, I will support his decision FWIW.

I’m sure he’d finish here. I don’t think it is a negative impact. Rosters are so transient these days, I think everyone is used to change.
