Losing a game by 16 points to any one is isn't good.

Will the Bruins come back to win this game ?

UCLA loses a road game 91-87. UCLA had 5 players foul out, 4 were starters. JMU is a pretty good mid major. Still UCLA should win this game, had a 15 point lead at one time.

13 assists and 26 turnovers and 5 players foul out. Usually those would be blow out stats. Lose by 4 in OT to an experienced team on the road. Loss hurts but Bruins should grow from this. I think they play at North Carolina next. Well 0-2 could be a tough start for a young team, too.

Not a great way to start the season. It was a home game for LSU

Have to wonder how long Nikki Caldwell keeps her job, she's has underachieved since being hired.
IMHO she was awful for UCLA too. She was a very poor recruiter and did well with the kids she inherited, but left the cupboard extremely bare. I doubt she would be fired after one game, but the last 3-4 years she's been there, the highest rated kid she's landed is Danielle Ballard, who was barely in the top 25. Not a good track record thus far...

I guess UCLA isn't poised to pass Stanford as the queens of the PAC-12 any time soon...

Really nice game from Nirra Fields, and solid game for Canada (starter) and Drummer off the bench. Having all your starters except Canada foul out, and Drummer did as well, does not make for a strong game!

By the way Maryland rolled over Mount Saint Mary's, but that wasn't the interesting part - 7 players scored in double figures, and it was almost 9 as one player had 8 and another had 9 points. Incredibly well spread out scoring from them, and the minutes reflected that as well.

Just checked the box on UCLA - must have been a dreadful game to watch - 64 fouls called in total -with 82 fouls shots. The winning team shot 35.1% and 20% from three!

By the way UNC struggled out the gate against Howard (were down 13-11 about 9 minutes in) but went on a tear and are up almost 20 near the end of the first half. Reminds me of some of those UCONN games where we struggle for the first 5-10 minutes against a team like Cincy, and the BY erupts with chatter about how we should not be struggling against a team like that, blah blah. Hey - I've been guilty of that in the past too. Anyway, seems like UNC might have better team chemistry, but may still struggle with their identity this year. We will see...

Precious Hall, from JMU was their leading scorer with 25. However, 6-26 and 1-13 from the 3 pt line. Luckily she was 12-12 from the FT line.

Odd game.

Unless the kids were throwing elbows on every other play, 64 is just an absurd number
of fouls to be called.

My benchmark for an obtrusively refereed game is 40.

There were 136 shots attempted and 38 offensive rebounds so a total of 98 offensive possessions that resulted in one or more shot attempts. Add in 39 possessions that ended in a turnover and in total the two teams had 137 possessions - with 64 fouls that means that every other possession on average had a foul called ... ugh!

per ESPN box score Virginia beats The Ohio State 87-82

Ohio State plays 5 players, Virginia 6 .......................something is wrong here

Doesn't UCLA have like 5 freshmen, many of whom are starting? If so, not too odd they'd struggle in an opening game against pretty decent competition.

Meanwhile, my Scarlet Knights beat a pretty decent St. Joes' team (2nd round NCAA last year before they got to UConn--returned 4 starters) by 24 pts. Big story is that Canty starting to look like the HS AA she was recruited as.
