Here's a tip for a novice coach. When you get a 3rd and one or a 4th and one and are unsure. Don't call a TO. Ask for a measurement. The refs always grant them. Then while the chain gang is on the field. Figure out your play.

Diaco made the same mistake again today and wasted a TO. Didn't cost him. Still a rookie mistake.

Also, his handling of the clock at the end of the first half was not very good. He has to clean this stuff up.

It's much better to learn while you win.

I blew a gasket watching the end of the 1st half. You really have to try hard to be as bad as he is with the clock in end of half situations. The timeout burning is just icing on the cake.

I really hope this is, as you say part of the learning process and he tightens this up for next year. I would hate for the team to not realize it's full potential due to coaching mistakes that should not be happening.

Diaco is so good in other program building areas that you accept the on the job training part he is presently going through in hopes of a big payoff in the form of a breakthrough season down the line.

someone should've coached him to make that catch....

Or have created at least one more opportunity to score a TD. It's not the drop, it's that the entire offensive scoring production was predicated on him catching that one pass. It's like putting your entire net worth on black for a single roulette spin. Create more opportunities and you can afford to botch a few.
