Our moderator is trying very hard to keep all transfer news in one thread, maybe you can help her out.:D This is not significant she played 12 minutes total last season. It only helps the Cards with overloading of players.

Syd entered Louisville recovering from an ACL tear her senior year. Never saw the court her freshman year. Saw maybe two games this year. Her knee is just not sturdy enough for D 1 ball. Press release suggests she is planning to transfer to a lower division program where she can play but not have to practice every single day.
Syd was a huge emotional leader for our team, on the sidelines. She will be greatly missed. While many of us had resigned to never seeing Syd play due to her knee, I certainly thought she would stay with the team in some capacity.
That she may still have the opportunity to play the sport she loves is great for her. Many of us Cardinal fans are terribly sorry to see her go.

Stupid knee injuries.

I agree that it is not significant, but not necessarily for the reason that you provided. It was expected that she was going to "retire" from basketball because of persistent injuries, but this suggests that she perhaps didn't wish to stop playing basketball, but perhaps Louisville needed the scholarship. Even with Taja Cole's decision to transfer, Louisville still had 11 players returning and 5 players in their incoming recruiting class. It's possible that Dakota Weatherford is a walk-on; she transferred in last year from Division I Evansville (Missouri Valley Conference). So with Brackenmyre transferring, Louisville is good for next year regardless of Weatherford's status. Interestingly, Louisville will have 3 seniors next year (Weatherford, Cortnee Walton and Briahanna Jackson), so only 3 roster spots will open due to graduation, but it seems as if Louisville is offering many, many players in the 2017 class. Now that Louisville is successfully recruiting with the big boys/girls, you would think that Jeff would cast a more narrow net, as he is catching a far higher percentage of recruits than he used to catch.

Weatherford was a walk on, but ended up with a scholly when Emmonnie Henderson left to focus on her field events in hopes of making the Rio Olympics. the public statements were such that she would go back to walk on status after this year.

We will have a 5th year senior in Walton next year. I have speculated that it was Walton who would likely not return, as she got her undergrad in 3 years and I thought was set to receive her masters by the end of this summer. Perhaps I have been wrong about her all along.

Knowing Syd was likely to never play with U of L, Weatherford a walk on, and the potential of Walton leaving a year on the table, the numbers were always going to work out. It burns my britches when people just count numbers and roster spots and assume the coach is "making room" or " pushing people out" when they really have no idea about all the things that can be going on within the program with different kids.
