The thread about the loudest overall game got me thinking about single plays that blew the roof off of Gampel or XL/HCC (Or Field House)...

The first play that comes to my mind is Stanley's alley-oop in the opening minutes of the Texas game. What are some others?

Donyell's 360 dunk, against Seton Hall I think. And the entire game of Ray vs. Kittles rematch (played a day late because the blizzard).

And the entire game of Ray vs. Kittles rematch (played a day late because the blizzard).

The first five minutes of that game, Ray and Rudy Johnson both dunked driving along the baseline. Kittles tried the same thing and had it pinned on the backboard by Kirk King. The place was shaking at that point.

When we went up 23-7 on Kansas in 1997, it was the loudest I have heard any college hoops crowd before or since.

2011 Big East Championship game when Mike Marra had a chance to tie the game with 3 free throws and under 10 seconds left. MSG was the loudest I had ever heard any arena.

I may be "misremembering" the facts to make a better story, but mine is:

Set up: Opening game at Gampel against SJU during the dream season. At that time, the train was just starting to leave the station. After a horrible loss at the Civic Center to Villanova, UConn beats a few teams on the road during winter break. We then beat Syracuse and Georgetown (who was poised to take over the number 1 ranking). A win against a good St. John's team puts us in first place.

Play: In the midst of a nice UConn run, the press (I miss that press) causes a turnover which leads to an alley-oop dunk by Scott Burrell. It either gave us the lead or put things out of reach. Great play (including the fact that the team rarely dunked), new arena, important game, uncharted territory (first in Big East).

Always had a tough time between those 2. Def. the 2 loudest games I've been at.

I agree with this one. I think their was one dunk in that game (maybe it was Dyson) where the mic got muffled with static because the crowd was so loud.

I nominate two I saw in person. Ray Allen's shot to beat Iverson and Georgetown at MSG in the 1996 Championship, and Tony Robertson's sick dunk. I forget who they were playing but I remember that dunk. It was my favorite dunk by a Husky, although some would say that one by Stanley Robinson or Donyell Marshall were as good or better, to me when a smaller player dunks he has to get an edge over a tall player.

Might you be referring to the BC game in the Civic Center at the end of the 2001-02 season? I was there and TRob had consecutive monster slams. In fact I think there's still a video of those floating around somewhere in this community...

Yes, I wanted to say it was BC but wasn't sure.

That Texas game was incredible. If the rest of the season hadn't gone to , that might have been one of the most memorable regular season home games in recent memory.

Again as I've mentioned so many times it's never been as loud at a UConn game since the 90 GTown game, 2nd TO as UConn was up 14-o.................that moment was exceptional!!

This run was what I was going with. Wasn't at MSG for the title game last year.

It wasn't just the loudness of the noise on those free throws..it was the howling sound...pretty much despair. The crowd simply wasn't going to let all 3 of those shots go in. What made it even more amazing was it obviously was a "neutral" setting and so the sudden escalation of noise kind of came out of nowhere. Not to say it was a dead crowd.. but it turned from an excited NYC UConn-leaning crowd into an absolute Gampel Pavilion South when he stepped to the line.

That was special.

I remember i wasnt really that nervous when Kemba fouled him. I had a feeling Marra just did not have it in him to make all 3 free throws. It was probably an 85% Uconn crowd and i knew that was the moment every single one of them would be heard. That was LOUD!

I was at the Texas game with friends who came up from Austin, and they said the Gampel noise was louder than any game they could recall at their arena.
The loudest noise I remember at MSG was when we beat Pitt for the BE Title and T.Brown made a desperation three from the South Bronx.

And very time you do, I argue that it was when we raced out to a 21-3 lead against Syracuse days later. It was also very loud when Tate hit a 3 from the wing while being knocked to the ground later in the game. Most of us would agree, a surreal week for UConn fans back then either way.
