Well we have yet another coach comment on how many plays UConn runs. That is a definite difference between Ollie and Calhoun. Quite frankly, Calhoun had an assistant coach ask me once how I knew certain stuff and it was more I grew up a Celtics fan like he did. I knew Red Auerbach's principles and knew Calhoun knew them even better and applied them.
One of Red's core principles was keep it simple; have maybe a half dozen offensive plays with various options depending on the defense and personal. Then focus on executing them flawlessly. Of course, Calhoun had the same philosophy. Ollie on the other hand seems to take a play or two from all the great coaches he played for and a few from the assistants as well. It's a lot to prepare for by the other team. The downside can be the plays are not always run crisp since some players get confused or just don't do all the small things to make a play work.
The one exception to this general rule seems to be out of bounds plays, we don't seem to have any that produce a score.
At any rate, the number of offensive plays is definitely an area where Calhoun and Ollie have different philosophies.
