That fumble is not the reason we lost. The kid should keep his head up.

You're right, but these kids are competitors. They got this far because they live and die with their passion and their competitive spirit. So when something like this happens, it's devastating. I mean, think how despondent most UConn fans were walking out of that stadium, and then multiply that by... well, I have no idea.

I think the kid has a bright future and I hope he does keep his head up, but I'm also glad he's passionate enough to not just let it go, either.

Say he fielded it clean.

Then we would have to drive down the field and score. Not likely based on how the offense looked all day.

Then we would have to convert two.

Then we would have to win OT.

If he makes the catch, our chances of winning are still microscopic - that play had little to do with the outcome.

You mean as crazy as:

1st and 10 at CONN 32 Chandler Whitmer pass complete to Shakim Phillips for 4 yards to the UConn 36.

2nd and 6 at CONN 36 Chandler Whitmer pass complete to Geremy Davis for 18 yards to the Tows 46 for a 1ST down.

2nd and 7 at TOWS 43 Chandler Whitmer pass incomplete to Deshon Foxx.

4th and 7 at TOWS 43 Chandler Whitmer rush for 7 yards to the Tows 21, TOWSON penalty 15 yard Personal Foul on Telvion Clark accepted for a 1ST down.

He didn't say it was impossible, he did say the chances were very small which is a fair assessment.

Having a true freshman as a punt returner had me worried going into the game. Now that he got this out the way, I suspect he will emphasize catching the ball before he takes off running. Learning experience for the kid. Truthfully, I would love this kid to start getting incorporated into the offense. I'm dying for the days where we could make a short completion to a WR he could make a kid or two miss and turn in a huge offensive play.

Yeah, I'm not down on the guy. It was a team loss. But let's not minimize what was a bad mistake. Catch the damn ball.

He got banged up on the previous return. Came off holding his arm and I suspect it was probably a stinger. He may not have been 100% when he muffed. Happens with frosh. I hope he takes one in soon. Be great for his confidence.
