You have to believe that is the motivation. I don't get the why for the jump to football super-conferences, but there's a lot of things I don't get, so no matter. It appears to be happening, and the Big East, in present form, can't respond to that at all. It would just be way way too big. It would have to be the "Huge East." And a football conference just can't do the types of things it has to do in today's environment when half the conference doesn't buy in to the same philosophy.

Bigger issue. What does this mean for Notre Dame? Because if Notre Dame needs a spot for its non-football sports, which it surely will after the demise of the big east, where does it go? ND to the B10? Has to. Does the B10 take three others to get to 16? Unthinkable?

Watch out for ND to the ACC for all other sports but football, with an agreement to schedule X # of ACC teams per year, or ND all in the B10

Syracuse was a solid supporter of the basketball schools. This move came out of no where, and Syracuse and Pitt totally screwed the rest of the league. Just stick together for one more year and everyone would have gotten paid. Instead, they jump the gun and screw their conference mates.
