I don't think there will be many surprises myself. Maybe a true frosh cracks the 2 deep. And the return specialists are still unknown. 2nd string OL a mystery. Still some interesting stuff to find out though. Here's my best shot at the position players:

QB- Whitmer, Cochran
RB- McCombs, Delorenzo
FB- Clax, Walsh
TE- McQuillan, Spencer
OL1- Bennett, Greene, Bullock,Cruz, Friend
OL2- Hemingway, Samra, Mateas, Rugg, Levy
WR1- Davis, Phillips, Foxx
WR2-Green, Thomas, Lemelle

DE- Joseph, Norris
DE- Wilman, Frank
DT - Stephen, Pruitt
DT- Campenni, Myers
LB1- Smallwood, Donahue, Stewart
LB2- Vann, Ashiru, Steg?
CB- Jones, Stephenson
CB- Mack, Williams
S- Brown, Floyd
S- Adams, Melifonwu

QB- Whitmer - Cochran
RB- McCombs - DeLorenzo
FB- Clax - Walsh(f)
WR- Phillips, Davis, Foxx - Green, Abrams, Lemelle(f)
TE- McQuillan - Parker
OL- Bennett, Cruz, Mateas, Green, Friend
OL (2)- Hemmimgway, Samra, Bullock, Gifford, Levy

DT- Stephen, Campenni - Pruitt, Myers
DE- Joseph, Norris - Willman, Battles
LB- Smallwood, Donahue, Stewart - Ashiru, Vann, Steg
CB- Jones, Mack, Stevenson - Clark, Williams, Marder
S- Brown, Adams - Floyd, Lee

Position battles i see:

QB- which of the frosh will make the travel squad at #3 ?

RB- Williams, Max, or Marriner for the #2 spot ???

TE- Will Myers bump Parker and play as a frosh ? Will McQuillan maintain the #1 spot all season ?

OL- Starters are pretty much set, except there could be a battle for starting Center. But the backup spots are a total cluster. Anyone on the roster outside of the 2 true frosh is in the mix right now.

DT- Stephen will start, but any of Campenni, Myers, Pruitt, McBryde, Knappe could also see time. Really interesting to see who will be the final 4.

DE- Opposite a healthy Joseph, we could see any of Pruitt, McBryde ,Willman, Battles, Frank. Another great battle for the 2 deep.

CB- Beyond Jones, nothing will be set until gameday imo. We could see more position switching here.

Safety- Floyd, Lee, Melifonwu, Marder, all trying to get on the 2 deep here.

I cant wait for FOOTBALL !!!!!!!!!!!

I think that the D will actually better than last year. We are solid two deep everywhere. We really fell of when we lost Wilson last year.

I for RB. Willaims will be the direct back up for McCombs. So if it's a play where they do not need change of pace, they use Williams. Shifty fast. Max will be change of pace, but Hypolite really looked good in practice, so don't count him out. Marriner is red shirt all the way, unless we really have problems.

Williams is fast, but not so shifty. He seems to only go in one direction (forward). I'm not sure if left and right agility is something you are born with or can learn, but Williams needs to greatly improve his ability to avoid a hit or he will quickly be passed by Marriner and Max. I will actually be very surprised if Marriner redshirts.

Right now my RB depth chart would be:

1) McC0mbs
2) Max
3) Marriner
4) Hyppolite
5) Williams

If you went to open practice then you did not see what I saw. Marriner was clearly behind everybody, but did well. And he needs to bulk up. Max made a nice long run. Hypolite was the overall best and Willaims did the best of making something from nothing.

The roster on the UConn website has 9 quarterbacks for 2013. 9? I know McCummings is moving to a new position and it looks like Liam Sallquist at 6'5" 249lbs might be a work in progress for a role other than QB but that still leaves 7 QB's. I see 5 legit QB's with 2 of them(Lagow, Boyle or Taylor) red shirting but where does Chris DeBerry a Junior fit into the picture? And Michael Ecke... does he have a second talent like kicking, punting, long snapping?

Looks like QB Chris Deberry getting time @ WR (unless roster is off) @ 3:08

... and his picture was not taken with the other QBs on media day.

Circumstantial evidence but...

enjoyed the clip... it looked like players moved with more of a sense of urgency... encouraging...

btw Chris DeBerry may be a guy we could see a lot of.. he's got experience...according to his bio on the uconnhuskies site he transferred in from Bowling Green as a walkon, but I saw this: http://bsubears.com/sports/fball/2011-12/bios/DeBerry_Chris as well.. apparently he balled at a smaller school prior to Bowling Green? he was listed as a RB there... sounds like a versatile kid on offense.. a welcome addition IMO...

Hmm, Maybe he is our double secret probation wildcat QB. Kid has 4.5 speed. BTW Phenomenal music with this video.

A confidential and informed source says Kivon Taylor has demonstrated some incredible, raw athletic talent in camp, and the coaching staff is looking at different ways of getting him involved on the field this year. Is anyone else getting the sense we've got more and better skill players on this team than we've had in awhile? We just need to get them the ball and some space to get things going.

>>Freshmen continue to make waves

One of the major differences in this year's preseason camp compared to this point last year is how much UConn coach Paul Pasqualoni is talking up the freshmen.

The most recent example of this came at Friday's media day press conference when Pasqualoni made the point to mentioning the impact freshman cornerback Javon Hadley, an undersized (currently listed at 159 pounds) but extremely athletic true freshman from Miami.<<

How about Boland !!!!!!
2 days in school, and ready to play as a true frosh. I know its a position that's completely up for grabs....but that's impressive nonetheless.

Put one of your stud WR's on KO returns. Oh man.

Jessee Joseph questionable? Though Junior Joseph was hurt?

Can he catch a pass? He has Megatron size.

Shakim as KR seems risky, we don't have much depth at WR

Guess you didn't consider Nick Williams a "stud"?

Jr. Joseph out indef w/ left knee injury. Jesse dinged up and didn't practice on Saturday.

Lots of college teams use their best players on KO returns. It's the reality of college. Put your playmakers on the field to make plays.

We used Todman on KO's. In my humble opinion, the risks outweigh the rewards. But then again, we probably don't beat ND without JT's return for a TD. So whatever. I'll live with it.

Bit more from Jim Fuller on injury updates and a few other subjects:

http://runwayramblings.blogspot.com/2013/08/pasqualoni-optimistic-about-mcquillans.html

>>Pasqualoni was impressed with the return of 10 players who underwent offseason surgery mentioning that running back Martin Hyppolite "hasn't missed a snap" despite breaking his hip in a March automobile accident, kicker Chad Christen being on campus and in treatment "every single day, he did not have a summer" and linebacker Jon Hicks' return from knee surgery in 4 1/2 months which "he has never heard of."<<

As well as John Silver's take:

http://snyuconn.com/uconn/football/mcquillan-adams-injury-uupdates/

... and Des:

They now have me confused about Jesse and Junior. Hope they are BOTH back by UMD.

Agreed. I'll also take a WR here over a RB like Todman.
