Not to mess with the mojo or anything, but this should be a really ugly game for UCLA. They are 4-5 with losses to James Madison, UNC, Texas, Nebraska and Miami. Of their 4 wins, one was vs. Cinci and was only an 8 point win.

They also beat UC Riverside, Sacramento State (by only 9) and Samford. They play a lot of freshmen, and have Nirra Fields, who is terrific, but I have a hard time seeing how they keep UCONN's margin of victory under 40.

On paper, they sound great. Fields, Korver, Canada, Drummer, Billings, Caldwell, Swain - all names of top 50 or so recruits (except for maybe Korver). Maybe it's their youth, but boy could this be an ugly game from UCLA's perspective...

So Eric , I get the impression that you don't think there's going to be an upset here.

If you read the UCLA forum they are calling for the coaches job and many dont like the job Fields has done this year.

Can't be too much uglier than the UCLA men's 83-44 pasting by KY today, but maybe a little.

It may not be a contest but I've seen Canada play on TV and she will be fun to watch working against Jefferson. Another nice matchup will be Fields and Nurse, Canadian National teammates. I'll be there.

I am keeping the fingers on both hands crossed for MoJeff to have an epic offensive game(15-20 pts); she needs one. We get her rev'd and the party is really rockin'.

Canada was in the McDonalds AA game - correct? She was amazing from what I remember. UCLA has been getting some great recruiting classes in recent years- with not much to show for it.

No spitting match here but I think she had a great game vs DePaul. She leads the team in assists and is second in steals. The team is averaging 90 points a game to their opponents 55. Why would Geno or anyone disrupt the unselfish flow of this team to have a point guard get 20 points? The job is to set up, call plays, distribute and create her own shot when needed which is not often on a team with this much talent.
Again no malice but with the talent at the positions to be fed if we need a point guard to score in double digits something is very wrong with the team. Now if this were on the men's board that is another story...

Drinking coffee and about to head out to the subway for my trip to the Casino. Woot! Woot!

Woof, no offense taken, but I disagree with your definition of a UConn point guard. True, the burdens of a point guard can reduce scoring options or the energy for it. However, we have a history of scoring PGs and that was one emphasis for MoJeff this summer. There are a significant number of opportunities each game for her to take a 12-14 foot jumper and the occasional 3 in addition to her slashes to the hoop. As with all shots the question is : is that the best shoot on the floor at the moment? Without MoJeff as a scoring threat we are a lesser squad, so... Go Mo!

Don't wish to derail the thread topic, but there's also some other key matchups tomorrow that's worth eye-balling:

The Texas A&M vs Texas game is IMO the big game tomorrow: two bitter in-state rivals who are also top-10 caliber programs. A veteran, salty old head coach versus a young new-comer. It should be a fun game to watch....

Also at least for me the Duke versus UK game will be an informative one to watch. Kentucky is the next ranked opponent on USC's schedule, and Duke has the type of interior height and size that USC presents. So seeing how Duke's size can impact UK's LA "ShowTime" fast-break style offense can be educational for USC. The Gamecocks of course have the superior perimeter guard defense to Duke's however, so it can also add that into the mix. But if Duke can cancel UK's interior game and force them into resorting to jumpshots it will be interesting. IMO UK's Jennifer O'Neill is the SEC's version of Meagan Simmons this season. We'll see.....

Don't worry, you won't derail anything. Maybe you should start your own Southern Fried Blog CLE or this would have been best as its own thread "other games of note" or similar. As you know I'm sure, the Boneyard members, though die hard Huskies, have broad interest in WCBB.

Uconn is a 35.5 point favorite over UCLA
Honestly that seems reasonable. I initially thought it would take a great effort by UCLA to keep it to under a 40 point loss. Looks like Vegas agrees...

That's odd since I think Depaul is ranked far ahead of UCLA, but I guess Vegas looks at it differently...
