This is a serious question for anybody to answer. It's not any kind of gotcha.
In this game and another one over the weekend,vI heard announcers say that a team had gotten "within 10 points" at a point when the margin was exactly 10 points.
Is that accurate? I thought in both cases that ”within 10” would be 9 or fewer.
When I consider that whittling a lead down to a single point might be termed "getting within 1," which would make my prior supposition wrong, and the announcers right.
So, is a 10-point deficit "within 10," meaning that a team can tie the game if it makes up 10 more points?
I'm looking to be educated, not to claim that I'm right, and the announcers don't know what they're talking about. But I now suspect I've been wrong. It doesn't matter, really, because I'll just start saying, "They've gotten the deficit down to single digits," but I'd like some confirmation. Thanks in advance.
