I was there too, and yes the weather was a factor, but also there were a lot of parallels with last week's game in terms of our QB being able to keep the defense honest with his passing.
 
Hopefully a new ad that has a clue will make the hire....but UConn needs someone with energy and the ability to get these kids excited. Probably not going to be a popular pick but I'd love them to bring in Don brown, I know he is too old, but at least he has energy still and an aggressive defense

Agree that Edsall hasn't been perfect, but if we still had Bryant this season under center, opposing defenses could not afford single coverage and could not stack the box every play. We very likely would have four wins. We need a a QB who is a passing threat on every play, it opens up the run game.

I'm not saying to fire Dunn; I think he's done a good job overall this year. I'm not even saying to fire Edsall. I'm saying there has to be accountability for an obvious game plan that failed.

And for the people that want to use the miserable weather as an excuse, while simultaneously avoiding the fact that the UMass backup QB played in the exact same weather, they need to revisit physics...

LOL. Fair enough. Except that as I sit here fighting a cough and a sniffle, I do not have patience for those who watched the game from home explaining how we shouldn't have let the weather effect us as much. Don't even care if they're right.,
 
Mark Richt when he gets canned at Miami. Will bring his son with him as OC so we have another father-son duo.

How would UConn fans feel about a coach who wanted to go the triple option route similar to Navy or Georgia Tech? You don’t need 4-5 star relievers or running backs, and you protect the defense by running the clock when you have the ball. Just curious.

Bingo. Until we fully commit to winning football games and spend the necessary money, we aren't hiring anyone much better than an older retread collecting a paycheck (and trying to line up a job for his son). We have to commit to doubling the football coaching pool to field an entire staff...not just HC. For a place like UConn, it's every bit as important to employ Joe Moorhead/Todd Orlando/Don Brown as it is to employ a good head coach in touch with today's game.
 
I am as steamed as the rest of the 'Yard about yesterday's outcome. But I'm not calling for HCRE's head just yet for the following reasons:
-He is cleaning the cabinet of Diaco recruits who aren't FBS talented, while at the same time giving game time experience to his own recruits who he thinks have more long term upside.
- I genuinely believe in giving a coach 3 recruiting classes before judging his resume.
-based on his previous UConn tenure, it should be sometime next season that we should see if his current recruiting has born fruit.

That said, I will address the original premise:
-When Mike Leach was let go at Texas Tech, I was an advocate of hiring him & was admonished that he was too toxic. Wazzou took a chance on him & is now reaping the benefit.
If & when HCRE either retires or is let go, my preference for his replacement is an offensive genius type in the Leach, Major Applewhite mode. Identify him & sign him. UConn's previous hires of defensive minded coaches (the last two frauds) are major reasons why the Huskies are currently in this black hole.
 
The supposition is that there will be another coach after Edsall at the 1-A level. That is by no means assured. The program is gonna live or die on the next three seasons, all of which will be coached by HCRE2.0.

So assuming that the program is a success in three years, and HCRE2.0 retires, then the search will start. UConn won't be in the hunt for a big name because even then they won't be able to afford one. So you are looking at a young up-and-comer. Who that might be three years out is anyones's guess.

The biggest thing is that after 20 games, there is no sign of anything improving or even what we are trying to be. 3 3 5 defense , 4 3, 4 2. This rebuild resembles throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks. First time around he was recruiting to a BCS conference. He doesn't have that this time around. It's too soon to judge his recruiting to date, but I do I feel the downgrade in conference perceptions would hurt him more than other coaches. Even on offense we have a dual threat senior QB, backed up by seemingly pro style QBs. Does this make sense?

I agree that conference perception (G5 v. P5) on top of 8 years of losing has an impact on recruiting this go around that be didn’t face last go around. But any coach coming through the door faces the same impediments.

My gut tells me Krajewski is the future QB but I’ve been wrong before.
 
Both teams played in same conditions. Both with statistically bad defenses. Offensive action in game:

Which team played to win?

Coaching issue that is highlighted to me is how 1st UConn possession put together vs. last UConn possession:

1st drive by UConn 7 running plays covering 82 yards (30% of total yards for game) in 3:36.

Last possession get ball on own 19 (81 yards to go) with 3:39 on clock. Time and distance similar to 1st series of game, likely can get in way more than 7 plays if can get 1st downs (will go for it on 4th): got in 7 plays on 1st drive of similar distance and time. At start of last drive have 3 time outs, 1st downs stop clock, in last 2:00 minutes of game out of bounds stops clock 'till next snap. Want to use all the clock as TD and 8 points only gives 3 point lead. Given all this and having only passed 5 times all game and with a QB with TEENY FINGERS you pick that play on 1st down! Shirley there was a more completion/1st down/drive friendly strategy to start that last series.

Yes to play QB. He only threw for like a million yards in high school with two state championships, the only schools that recruited him for TE were West Virginia, and Maryland (Edsall). All the others (Wisconsin, Wake Forest, BC, Syracuse), wanted him for QB. UConn was on the fence for TE and QB. Syracuse might also have had hybrid aspirations for Rose.

As far as I know Tyler Davis had no P5 offers and only two FBS offers, UConn and Buffalo, everything else was FCS.

You know, my brother and I have been talking about this at the last few tailgates. I'm not a fan of triple option but do admit that it is effective and does help shrink talent gaps. I still think that the rules of football (QB protection, PI, illegal contact, tempo, etc) are so in favor of the offense that it is foolish not to throw the football. But I like winning most of all and if that's what it takes to win at UConn, then so be it.

Would be open to it, but would have been more receptive 5-6 years ago. I'd take Paul Johnson if GT tires of him but not an unproven OC.

Anyone arguing about Pindell's hand size is agreeing with Randy's ridiculous argument. My God, pass the ball. Try it. TRY it. Such a lame excuse.

Diaco was a total disaster, but the idea behind his hiring made sense. Just because it didn't work with him didn't mean they shouldn't try the same thing- you go and you find a good coordinator. Sometimes you chase forever, but eventually, it works. Look at Duke w/Cutcliffe. They didn't go out and chase Spurrier even though they have Duke money, they kept going after coordinators and eventually got the right guy.

UConn, in typical Connecticut puritan fashion, went and begged the guy who led them to above average to come back like he was Bill Snyder. Its freaking pathetic.

I thought only UConn and Syracuse were the possible options @ QB in the end (Wisconsin, Maryland, NC State, Wake and others were recruiting him primarily as a TE). I remember reading that's why he narrowed his list down to those 2 before announcing.
 
I’d want Lance Leopold from Buffalo, though I don’t think he’d come.
