Team USA up by almost 30+ late in the 4th quarter. Great numbers for Charles, Bird, Taurasi, Ogwumike, McCaughtry and Stewie. Nneka with a double double. Everyone contributed in the scoring column except for Dupree (started by played 5 minutes) and Lavender (did not start and played 9 minutes - finishing the game out over Dupree).
If I had to guess, with Griner on the team, either Lavender or Dupree goes home, and at this point I have no idea which one it will be. Frankly I'd send Dupree and keep Lavender - just for the size difference, but with Charles, Griner, Stewie and Ogwuimke, they might not "need" Lavender's slightly larger size...
Then again, based on the time on the floor, maybe they liked what they saw from Jantel better...
As a sidenote observation - someone, or maybe more than one, said that Stewie would be better off at UCONN practicing with her teammates etc etc. than getting "limited" minutes off the bench. Um... emphatic NO. Not only has she been productive against the best in the world, but she also gets to practice with/against team USA - the elite best in the world. The travel experience alone would be worth it, but add in the aforementioned additional benefits and it's a no-brainer - yes she belongs on the team and yes she should be there, NOT at UCONN...
Other sidenote - I think the defense was pretty good all game. Gave up 23 in the first half, 18 in the 2nd. But they did not find offensive flow (at least per the "numbers") till the 2nd half. Will be curious to see if that is Geno's assessment...
