Little good news...SEC looking to possibly add Clemson and UNC

While I don't believe a thing this guy says, it is an interesting thought. UNC is pretty obvious, but I'd be surprised by Clemson over UVA or VT.

This could help get UConn to the ACC. Fingers crossed

Wonder if it’s to keep UVA and VT in same league.
Clemson over VT all day. UVA feels like Big10.

Clemson shares a market with South Carolina, and when they aren't a consistent 10-win team, they are not a TV draw; they don't really add anything to the SEC unless they need a team just to even out the numbers. Their best shot to the P2 is as secondary target to even out the numbers; but a few more mediocre years may cause them to get left behind.

Unless SEC is shooting the moon by adding OhioSt and Michigan to become NFL jr, what does adding Clemson do? If they’re good then it’s yet another FB loss for 2/3 of the conference, which already can’t handle that they’re not winning 9 games a year.
And if they’re bad then they’re not even adding a new market or eyeballs.

Virginia in a heartbeat over Clemson.

I have a very strong suspicion that the SEC will within the next half dozen years attempt to pull in a couple schools from the ACC.

I am also very confident that MHVER has absolutely zero information that is legitimate. He's throwing t hings at a wall that may be plausible and hoping that something sticks. He's basically zero fit the past sixteen years at the moment.

Also, why now? With the ACC GOR thru 2036, I figured we were about 5 years away from schools making a serious attempt to bolt from the ACC.

It really doesn’t make a ton of sense. This feels like a baseless rumor for the time being.

It’s well known the SEC would like to add a few of the ACC schools but that’s not tenable until something major changes, and this rumor includes 0 of what that could be to shift the status quo through the end of the grant of rights.

I don't understand why people here (and on other sites) think that any ACC team would add value to the SEC in TV $$. The SEC is the best conference in viewers now. The only value-added team would be Notre Dame or one the top B1G teams. Everything else is meh.

UNC is the school I hear frequently mentioned. You don't think they have value?

The interesting thing about a state like South Carolina is how fast it is growing. For perspective, in 1990, South Carolina's population was similar to Connecticut, but now it is over 50% bigger. Market growth is important to conferences.

North Carolina (the state) has the 5th most players in the NFL. It is the 9th most populous state (and growing). If UNC were to separate from the rest of the N.C. schools, it would become a football powerhouse in a football state. The SEC would gladly full share them and keep them away from the B10 - and vice versa.

North Carolina and Virginia are both AAU Colleges. When not if they get poached they will be joining the Big 10 Conference

There is a big drop off in NFL talent after the top four states- Texas, Florida, California, and Georgia. UNC has no history of fielding good football teams.

UNC with twice the money would - for the reasons posted. More in-state NFL players than Louisiana and Alabama. And they will get the invite - my response to a previous post stating why any ACC teams would draw interest from the P2.

Or they end up like Maryland and Rutgers. Just another East Coast mediocre college football team.

Possible but not likely for the reasons stated. 1) More in-state talent. 2) would be the biggest dog at the bowl as the wealthy flagship with a full share of P2 money.
You don’t have to concede the points, that’s fine. MD and Rutty are apples to oranges.

UNC has never been a football power. Has not won the ACC in football since 1980. Being best FBS team in football in North Carolina means nothing.

Only in BB which, as we have all been told, doesn't count. UNC has a good FB maybe once a decade.

Being good once a decade in football is giving too much credit to UNC. Last time they won ACC was 1980. Let that sink in. 45 years ago.
