OP, you're way off on Giffey. I haven't seen Kromah play, but Giff was the best defender on the team by a wide margin last season and he has a jump shot opposing defenses at least have to respect. He's playing 20-25 minutes a game this season.

Niels has hit 30 3s his entire Uconn career. Kromah hit 50 3's his freshmen year. You have not seen Kromah play* than why even bother posting on the subject until you have an objective opinion? Remember he was a-10 rookie first team FIRST TEAM

Any reports on Kromah?
He's a real offensive threat , good size, can score easily when he takes his man on the block. Seeing how our roster is presented here, I'm not sure how Ollie handles sharing minutes between giff and Kromah. Oh and let's not run Napier into the ground before march.

Giffey is a 34% three point shooter over the course of his career at UConn, and there's plenty of evidence to suggest he can climb to the 36-37% range next season with more attempts. Kromah's a career 32% three point shooter and has been on a steady down tick the last couple years, dropping from 36% his freshman year to 22% last year. I've conceded I haven't seen enough on Kromah to formulate a credible opinion on him, but I do know plenty about Giffey, and judging by what he brought to the table last year, I'd be shocked if he was not an integral part of the team next season.

A10 rookie first team, or shutting down a Tony Parker lead France team full of NBA players?

Hmmm, which is more impressive?

Best players play. Giffey is NOT one of the teams top 6--Kromah is a much better version of Giffey. Tolksdorf gets minutes over him IMHO because he can shoot the rock and hes 6-8.
Uh what? Niels is a top 5 player on this team. The fact that you have Tolksdorf getting more time than Niels is a joke. And I still don't get how some of you think Boatright should come off the bench. Must not have watched that many games last year

bazz boat omar dd olander/nolan... samuel/kromah giff nolan first off the bench

I think Kevin Ollie is on the record as a huge fan of Giffey, which seems relevant here.

Ive seen Kromah several times he's been around a long time. He's much better than Giffey hes way more athletic hes a better defender I dont know what hes NOT better at than Giffey except % FT shooting. After Kromahs rookie year--he was talked about as a future NBA prospect in years to come. He never took off from that rookie year after he had that lifransic(foot injury) but his whole career hes had dozens upon dozens of games that Niels Giffey can only dream about. If anyone says the a-10 is some kind of chicken league--that s insane. The man has avg double digits in limited minutes three years running. This guy is on another level than Giffey. You'll find out soon enough.
Are you talking about the same giffey that's been killing it in the euro league this summer?

Scrappy 2.0 your timing is impeccable. You put down NG and he goes out and leads Germany to an upset win over France. Has a great game 6-6 and 14 points as noted in another thread. Makes you look silly. Best to wait and see how this all plays out. I hope Kromah fits in with the team but who knows. One thing we do know is that NG is a great fit with our current players.

Here's my guess:

1- Shabazz
2 - Boatright
3 - Calhoun
4 - Daniels
5 - A tall guy

I think you're fighting an uphill battle if you think Giffey's going to play the fewest minutes of his career - and get less time than Tolksdorf - as a senior. But hey, other than that great stuff Mrs. Kromah.

Just hope all these guys play so well we won't have to play Bazz 35 minutes a game. While he is our best player he also is the player we can least afford hurt or worn down. As long as the Ws are coming lets get everyone contributing and feeling good about their roles.

why not lower DD and OC m minutes by 4 each and give Giffey 12-15?

I don't think any of the freshmen will see the floor much this year. Hate on Olander all you want I still think hes quite a bit better than Facey.

Think Scrappy is underrated Niels by quite a bit. Always thought if Niels was given more of a chance he could really excel.

Also think some are under estimated Kromah guy seems to have some fans. I think Ollie gets both about 18 min a game.

PG-Boatright 30mpg
SG-Napier 33mpg
SF-Calhoun 27mpg
PF-Daniels 31mpg
C-Nolan 22mpg

6-Giffey 20mpg
7-Kromah 19mpg
8-Olander 18mpg

Theres your rotation. Samuels Brimah Tolksdorf and Facey get minutes when we have foul trouble, need a spark, or injury.

Mr. Kromah we're very happy your son transferred here but please think before you post.

Assuming he's eligible, people on here are completely underestimating Facey - there's a chance he's playing the bulk of the minutes at center by the end of the season.

I've seen the word "raw" get tossed around to describe him, and it's just not the case. No, he won't be a big scorer this season, but he should be at least a competent offensive player. Plus, his biggest strengths are shot blocking and rebounding, which just so happened to be two of UConn's biggest weaknesses last season.

His weight/build is a bigger concern at this stage than his skill level, IMO. I'm as big a proponent as small ball as anyone, but you're asking a lot for your freshman, 195 lb power forward to bang bodies in the paint with significantly bigger and stronger 21 and 22 year old's. From the look of it, Nolan's got a couple inches on Facey, 15-20 pounds of muscle, and a year of experience playing college basketball under his belt. I think he's a much safer bet to be playing the bulk of minutes at center by season end (though I think Facey will play a solid amount of minutes, both at the four and five).

I have seen him play three times now full games.... And I think he is very raw and think he will greatly struggle to finish early in his career. I think he will get pushed around on the boards.

I think Olander is going to play a lot more than most people think

Olander will play by default but he hasnt earned it. I was hopeful that by the time he was a junior/ senior--hed develop into nice player but hes not as good as his brother who played at Fairfield. Still will be rooting for him to have big senior year--we need it.

I hate that we have to defend Giffey to our own fan base. I'll take Giffey over any other bench player we have every game even if it meant losing.

If Kromah is good enough I think he eats most the backup minutes to Boat and Napier as well as allowing Ollie to reduce their minutes.

The starters 1-4 are set and only injuries will change them. If Kromah or Samuels prove themselves than that just allows Napier and Boatright to go full bore over less minutes and stay fresh.

Center by committee is back at UConn until someone claims the spot. Nolan seems to have the edge but he has a lot to show.

Ollie showed he is pretty good at exploiting mismatches, so a lot will depend on the other team but I would be very happy if the minute dispersal over the season was:

Napier 30
Boat 30
Calhoun 25
Daniels 30
Giffey 20
Kromah 20
Nolan 22
Facey/Olander/Brimah/Tolksdorf 23
Samuel ??
