I like Lin. I don't know if I like him for that much. However, Houston needs a point guard or they will have lamb playing the point at the start of the season. Knicks probably match which will kill their cap for years.

4th year is not guaranteed. The guarantee is three years for $28.8. Knicks will match.

It's $29M, and I'm not sure what is Daryl Morey's plan in Houston. He traded Lowry, which I guess you understand somewhat since he and McHale didn't get along, but then you let Dragic walk(after you traded Brooks for him a year and a half ago), then you offer Lin a contract that you know the Knicks will match. I'm already feeling uneasy about Lamb being in Houston with this clueless dude at the elm. He's pretty much drafted the same player 3 consecutive years in Patterson, Morris, and Jones, he's been championed by this new subset of fans who wet themselves over advanced statistics instead of actually watching games to evaluate players and dude seems to be pretty much in over in his head. The Rockets should've been blown up as soon as Yao's feet gave up on him and they should've tanked instead of being in the worst position you can be in the NBA, borderline playoff team/end of the lottery and stuck drafting players you can't build a squad around.

Eh, it will only hurt the third year. By year 3 Melo and STAT will be in their last year.

Why would the Knicks bother with Lin since it's clear that Melo's game negates what makes Lin valuable?

It's easy to understand. They wanted to get Dwight Howard and either convince him to stay or trade him for some real value. When that didn't happen they decided to blow it up. Now they will be in the lottery and have money to spend and have a better chance of ending up not being in the middle of their conference. As for trying to get Lin, Houston is big in China because of the Yao connection and Lin would keep that going.
