Liam McNeeley Shooting

McNeeley should stay and get another year of coaching from Hurley. He isn't ready for the NBA right now.

If a team promised lottery, then he needs to go.
I'm puzzled. The young man is absolutely entitled to do what he views as being in his best interests, and no one thinks he promised Hurley a second year. That having been said, you think someone promised him that he'd make enough shots to prove to scouts that he's NBA ready? That would be quite a promise unless the person making it gets to shoot for him.

The ceiling on Liam is super high...that's what teams are drafting him on. Liam has the build and ball skills to play anywhere from 1 to 4 in the NBA. We all saw it this season. NBA scouts aren't blind.

In no universe is Liam playing point in the NBA. Liam is a wing.
Obviously that's not where they're going to play him, but he has the skills where he could play it in a pinch, absolutely.

Liam is not quick enough to play NBA 1 and even an NBA 2 could be a stretch. He is SF at the next level but needs to work on his shot.

NBA teams won’t be playing Liam at point in a pinch. He is a wing. He doesn’t have the skill set to play that position.

He will be a point forward/secondary distributor guy in the league. His bigger ish is who does he guard. His defense is suspect at this level, never mind the NBA.

38% overall and 32% from 3 pt. range is not great for a shooter. Those are his final numbers for the season.

He’s not playing as a point forward in the NBA. His role at Montverde would be more a comp, what he did at UConn isn’t really going to be his role in the NBA, They won’t give him the reigns to do that. NBA teams would be drafting him on the hope the shot turns around & can add some positional size/shooting. His usage needs to go down to be more effective, was asked to do a bit too much for UConn.

LM elite skill is his 3 point shooting. It certainly wasn't clicking last third of the year.

He certainly has a lot of other skills. Good dribbler, good rebounder, etc. But he isn't really good or great in any other category yet.

We do this every year. People ignore how the draft works to say some player needs to stay. It gets old.

It's so stupid it's usually some boomer who thinks he's some expert. I eaves dropped on a conversation one time with a guy middle aged probably in his 60s at a barbershop as I'm headed toward the door he was talking about Kyrie Irving saying he won the national championship at Duke and that's why he's in the NBA.

I butted in saying he never won a national championship, and came the year after that he only played in 10 games, then he says "you sure about that" I tell him "ya I'm pretty positive look it up". Trying to end the conversation in peace knowing it would just lead into more stupidly I leave and just shake my head.

I know nothing about the NBA and Liam’s prospects but calling out the age of some opinionists is strange. And no, I’m not a boomer

it must be hard always being the smartest guy in the room, or I should say the barber shop.

He played with 4 guys that are NBA ready right now at Monteverde. He was forced to do things in college that he didn’t have to do playing with Cooper. He could spot up shoot and drive. Handling the ball and effectively running the offense is an adjustment for a young player. Our lack of depth at PG limited the effectiveness of Liam and AK.

McNeeley is a freshman and he had freshman ups and downs. He showed what he is capable of doing and he has a high upside. If the evaluations come back that he will be a top 20 +/- pick, he should probably go. If he gets feedback on what he needs to improve on to be a lottery pick, then he needs to weigh the pros and cons. No matter what he decides to do, we had some fun watching him, especially the Creighton game.

On a side note, UConn depended on McNeeley to score/rebound way more than Castle last year and it is really hard for a team to rely on a freshman.

It's just the vibe I feel. Everyone's entitled to their opinion.

Perhaps Liam would benefit from a chat with Bouknight and the virtues of playing with the Rip City Remix? He was “evaluated” for his super talent and went 11. Nobody is claiming to be an NBA evaluator, but watching a kid every moment on the floor within the context of game situations gives you a pretty good insight. Bouknight suffered from a similar problem as Liam… not ready to take over and deliver in the crucial moments but gets his numbers. When it was crunch time, the Florida AA did just that and buried us.

Bouknight problem wasn’t talent is what that he was immature and needed to grow up

He is not near the player as Flagg. Flagg has some vertical. He has spin moves. Goes to the rim hard. With intentions. Plays above the rim. Dunks. Defends. LM is not that. Pre injury or after. Not saying LM isn't a pro. But if I'm a NBA GM I'm not taking him early. I'm not bashing LM. But his body of work this year is just OK.
Fair commentary

You act as if he can't possibly work on these things in the NBA. He is going to get drafted high, he's going to continue improving, and he's going to be a good NBA player. That won't change whether he's here one year or two.
That’s fine. You are not wrong. And maybe the NBA’s profile is seeing a player 4 years out. But my eyeballs didn’t see a lottery player THIS YEAR! I love him and I love his motor. Kid never stops competing. One more year.

Hurley relied on Castle to guard every teams beat player. He did it flawlessly.

Let’s not act like there aren’t two sides of the court.
