LUBBOCK, Texas -- Lexi Gordon scored 30 points with 11 rebounds. She and Chrislyn Carr scored clutch points in the fading seconds as Texas Tech survived a furious fourth-quarter rally to defeat No. 25 TCU 87-83 Sunday afternoon.

A red letter day for Lexi to be sure. But this is not her first 30 point game for the Red Raiders. She dropped 31 on Dec 29 against UTSA (including 11 rebounds and 5 assists). Many D1 WCBB athletes play 4 years, and never have a 30 point game. She’s also had multiple double double’s this year. Remember that she didn’t become eligible until mid-season because of the NCAA transfer policy.

Why sophomore guard Lexi Gordon is leaving Connecticut

She left UConn last season at the Christmas break. I'm very glad to see her enjoying the success she's having at Texas Tech. It's nice to see one of our former players transfer and find success at another program. :)

Did she overcome her fitness / stamina issues? That was the main thing holding her back at UConn, as far as I can tell? But the stat line in this game suggests that she is not having a problem with playing major minutes.

It would seem so. She played 38 minutes in this game. She also grabbed 11 rebounds, and knocked down 5 3’s.

When you see her run down court it's easy to see why she may have had trouble handling UConn's practices. She looks as if she sometimes struggles to run at full speed, being one of the last players down court. It seems it has not hurt her at Tech.

I watched a good bit of the game. I think the TT offense is a good fit for her. It isn't a motion so she isn't expected to keep moving. She can spend a lot of time on the perimeter waiting for the ball to hit a 3. She doesn't have to be an all around player. If she tries inside defending she usually fouls. She is typically the last one to get to the other end of the court so her fitness has not changed much. I'm happy for her that she found a place to be succesful.

That's a major component when choosing a school Pup......................"Get in where you fit in." :)

This is exhibit A of why I think the 1 year transfer rule should be implemented. People are afraid that good players are going to leave mid majors for better programs, but my guess is you'll have a LOT of examples like this where Gordon wasn't getting any playing time at a powerhouse and has blossomed into a really good double figure scorer for a weaker program. Good for Gordon, hope she continues to thrive at TTU.

Lexi had a subpar game as WV neat TTech 71-69. 3-12 shooting (1-6 from 3)
