You do realize we went to a bowl game two years ago as an Independent?
Yes and with all due respect with what you bring to this forum, I am sure you notice how much I have constantly liked your posts and information.
I made the trip and attended the blowout with two others. With only Notre Dame and UConn left as independents, just what kind of respectable bowl does one think UConn would be invited to? This To be fodder once again?
It will take a double digit of wins to make a bowl game and it will not be with a comparable opponent with our strength of schedule.
Just keeping it real here.

Define “respectable bowl” w/ “comparable opponent”? I’m not sure what that means.

FWIW: In 2024 UMass is still an Independent.

9 wins would absolutely get us both respect and a bowl.
in a fair world, 9 wins should land us a really nice bowl vs a decent P4 team, like pinstripe bowl or fenway bowl, but with bowl/conference agreements and our overall garbage luck we'd probably get the dust bowl vs. New Mexico State... in New Mexico.

How is 28-14 a blowout and getting picked at the Marshall 8 with about 5 minutes to go? They fought back from practically giving the game away early... What kind of bowl does any team get at 6-6 if not in P2 or 4? At 10-2 there is a shot at being the G5 rep.

Unfortunately that isn’t likely. It’s the top-5 highest ranked conference champions. UConn as an independent would need to be an at large selection (top 7 non-champs in the Playoff rankings) over the P4 (well mostly P2) also rans.

there are generally enough bowl slots for all the eligible teams. Some years they have even added games. So I’m not worried about getting invited. Going 10-2, yeah we’d have to beat at least 2 of Maryland, Duke, Wake Forest and Syracuse. We would be a Top 20 team and even if we didn’t make the playoffs, we’d be a hot item and likely a media darling. I’d take it.

BTW the Myrtle Beach Bowl was fine for the 2022 team. Nice place, good weather, pretty easy accessibility from CT. It wasn’t the Fiesta, but we were 6-6. I’ll take a bowl in the Carolinas or Florida any day. Better team and we will get a better bowl.

Given the playoff has expanded to 12 teams does this change the bowl makeup outside CFP games?

Let’s just first get to a winning season and an offense averaging 300 yards a game so UConn is invited to a bowl. Some here are talking about G5 rep when the starting QB has never played a snap in a college football game.

I am going to guess a doubling of the wins of last year and a bowl invitation. Even though I am famous for my "it is what it is" realism and deriding the rose colored glasses in fashion here at his time of year. Feels different.

How I would enjoy watching UConn beat Syracuse in the newly refurbished Dome.

I guess for myself it means not going to a bowl as a 12 point underdog 12 hours away in the opponents back yard. We had a decent showing of fans but were out numbered for sure After going down 4 touchdowns even my loud self was silenced for a good amount.
Yes we made somewhat of a come back but they took the foot of the gas going up so much so easily.

Hey so I have to ask, why are you so obsequious? Don't get me wrong, I think you're good dude and you contribute to the site, but you seem to go way over the top trying not to be offensive. Which makes me wonder did you get burned on another site or something? Just curious.

You should take the odds for UConn winning the national championship. Currently around +300000 to +1000000. You could fully fund UConn football NIL.

LOL... had to look up the obsequious as I am not a brainiac. Once again I learned a new word, for this I thank you. :)
As for going over the top or not, I find our society doing enough of that and no reason for me to add to it.
This site has supplied enough to create opinions. I try to take the high road as a UConn addicted fan of all sports.

For what it's worth, I don't think you have to try so hard at it. People aren't that sensitive here. Just be generally polite and you're fine. Just my opinion.

Surely you jest. The flaming faction hasn't posted in awhile but they will be back.

Man, that would be tough. I didn't know the pool would come from the conference champs. The G5 folks were talking up Memphis and Liberty pre-2024 season. I thought the G5 rep came from a CFP committee that regarded all members. Liberty last year had one loss, but their SOS was around 120 according to Sports Reference, UConn's was in the 80s. Was thinking even with two losses and a stronger schedule UConn would jump a Liberty.

Unfortunately that is how it works. For UConn to consider any chance of making the CFP, UConn football needs to be in a conference member.
