The new NIL/portal era is certainly not for the faint of heart and pushing another senior captain out to pasture. This one was expected, although another awkward in-season step down. The ACC is going to have a lot of job openings. It takes a certain energy level and properly staffing in this era, not something fit for most of the old guard to adapt to. Give credit to guys like Izzo, who seems up for it, for now.

Most of the experienced long-time coaches in the ACC have left in the last few years so now the ACC has to have the most inexperienced group of coaches of any conference. Brad Brownell of Clemson is the longest tenured coach at a school still left.

I don't think this has anything to do with NIL, he's 76 years old and it's time. I aways liked the guy.

The only ACC coaches with modest name recognition are Davis and Scheyer.

Even if you told me the other 16 names I doubt I’d recognize them.

And one of those may not be long for his job

I cant believe he was at FSU for 23 years. I still think of him as the Miami coach who recently left for NBA and then for FSU. I better start making my will.

Oh, I think Pat Kelsey is quickly becoming recognizable. If I knew his name at Charleston, I’m sure a lot of people would know him now.

But, yeah, that league needs a few years to fill the vacuum.

Yeah it’s lost on me when schools in power conferences with top football teams blame NIL for their basketball coach leaving. Get a grip
It’s about the all around landscape. Most of the old school coaches who built programs off recruiting aren’t interested in the business side now needed with NIL and constantly also looking for “free agent” transfers

Or maybe most of the old school coaches are in their mid 70s at this point and want to retire before they die on the sidelines

We're just gonna use NIL as an excuse for everything now, huh

Basketball and football have different dynamics for NIL and football has had its share of older coaches stepping down too.

Not crazy to believe older employees with 40+ years in an industry find an inflection point where they say "f it".
