For whatever reason, this kid (woman) from Seton Hall pops into my noggin. Those of us UConn fanatics have had the privilege to see her on SNY & other outlets. She is about the height of 'Itty bitty' but with a more athletic appearance.
Her quickness & confidence is outstanding. I don't recall seeing an athlete of her stature who is much better. She has the look of being unshakable. With all our great young players, I marvelled at this little player.
I know we should only be praising our our own, but I think Park Lane is special. I don't know who recruited her, but give the Pirates credit.
I know that some of our BY sharpies know more about Lauren. Let us know!

Lauren Ashley Park-Lane (Born Feb 19, 2001) She's a sophomore from Wilmington, Delaware. High school: Sanford School in Hockessin, Del. A private college prep K-12 school. She's no "Johnny-come-lately" to basketball. She began playing at an early age. She played five years at Sanford..…Four-time All-State selection and a five-time All-Conference pick. She was named the 2019 Delaware Player of the Year. She led Sanford to a state title as a senior.

I like her too. We get to see her two more years. She's listed at 5'6. I think that maybe a "stretch". Crystal Dangerfield was listed at 5'5" and looked taller that her. She looks closer to 5'4". Maybe it's the TV angles or its perceptive height distortion. :confused: Often the smallest player on the court, yet she makes her presence felt, and has no fear of driving the lane (no pun intended). She was named this year's Big East Conference's Most Improved Player of the year. She's the Hall’s second leading scorer averaging 17.5 ppg this season, to Andra Espinoza-Hunter (18.6). [Seton Hall 2020-2021 team stats]

2019-20: Only player on the roster to start all 31 games... Averaged 6.7 points per game... she led Seton Hall and ranked fourth in the BIG EAST Conference with 129 assists and 4.2 assists per game... Reached double-figures in scoring seven times... Led the team in assists 20 times... Had 10 games with at least five assists and two or fewer turnovers. She has started every game THIS YEAR as well.

Don't let her size fool you. She's a point guard with quick moves and instincts that can pass and shoot. She proved that when she torched UConn for 29 points on Dec 15, 27 points in a game against Villanova, and 32 points against Georgetown on Feb 15 of this year. I think she's fun to watch, and look forward to watching her going forward. :)

Lauren might take the Covid exception and play 3 more years. Who knows?!

Note that she was a 5-time all-conference pick in high school in Delaware. So was Elena Delle Donne.

I wonder how tall Lauren was in 8th grade??
 
Always fun to see the short people excel in the tall people's game. I miss having the Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award - not sure why it was killed in 2014 for both men and women. Jen and Renee both won it once each.

Being an old timer, I went to High School when Calvin Murphy went to Norwalk High School. His Bio listed on WIKI is remarkable.

"Calvin Jerome Murphy (born May 9, 1948) is an American former professional basketball player who played as a guard for the National Basketball Association's San Diego/Houston Rockets from 1970 to 1983, and is a current member of the Houston Rockets' AT&T SportsNet TV broadcast team. Standing at a height of 5 feet 9 inches (1.75 m), Murphy has the distinction of being the shortest NBA player inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, and to play in an NBA All-Star Game (the latter since tied by Isaiah Thomas in 2016). "

Nothing against Lauren, but she was 1 for 12 for 5 points in the second meeting between UConn and Seton Hall.

For my money, the ultimate diminutive recent player was Brooke McCarty. She had unlimited range and the quickness and guts to get to the rim among the trees.
