Been a long summer a truncated fall and an early onset winter. Are we playing Florida on Monday? Wonderful.
I'm glad you boys muddled along without me; I was worried that the Boneyard wouldn't persist in a stable state without my pointedly pacifying posts. Kudos to all involved.
First, to Fishy, for providing more creative content to BYers in a week than John Stewart.
Then, non specifically, to the following:
The Nellie Naysayers burying DD after 2 games with unkind comments like, "well, looks like we have DD for 4 years." It's that sort of 2 game snap judgment that shows that circumspection is in short supply in these parts.
The Bully Brigade that picks a whipping boy every year and stays on him until and unless he undergoes a junior Hilton-esque transition over the course of a few games. Who is the target de jour? Is it Nolan? Seems to be Nolan. Could be Brimah, but he's too likable, notwithstanding his rapid recent taper (even the Fed is envious!).
The knuckle head who compared Kromah to RJ. Really?
How about pretty much 90% of the board crucifying Olander? Some saying he shouldn't even be on the floor unless we have an injury and new-rules level foul trouble. I'm not keeping count, but I'd say he was absolutely critical to two of our three nailbiting wins. Too slow? Lead foot? Guy busts his ass every play and has, apparently, accepted his new role with Rashamel-like resolution. I expect him to play hard in any minutes he gets, notwithstanding his limitations. Oh, and he has a ring, and he stuck around through the ban, and how about you get the ------ out of his grill and stop expecting him to suddenly grow a bunch of fast twitch muscle fibers and gain 20" of vertical and newfound lateral speed? Be a supporter, not a jock strap.
To the NBA-scouts on the board who were giving everyone the heads up that "NBA scouts are going to start taking note of Brimah at some point" after Amida had successive multiple block and dunk nights against Saint Mary's School for Wayward Girls level competition. Love the blind hope layered on the homer goggles; it's fun to dream, keep dreaming, and have a boatload of fun watching him over the next few years - I don't envy the Kentucky model, in which you have 6 months to get to know a player, and you see very little development; our most memorable players all improved greatly over the years in Storrs - that's the beauty of it.
Gotta get some work done and burn off all the crap I stuffed in my pie hole, including pie, which is what the hole is for, so to wrap up:
Yeah yeah, Boat has limitations and will have a tough time making the NBA, so STFU about it and let's watch him develop over this year and, if we are fortunate, next.
Kromah. Great find by Ollie, who did a fantastic job assembling this team with tied hands.
Stop calling for more minutes from bench players (Facey). Ollie sees them every day, just like JC did, and every time the BY thinks some guy needs more PT off the bench, a few 10 minute stretches usually demonstrate the error of the thinking.
[Christopher Walken voice]I think we need something here. I'm feeling it. What I need is more Giffey.[/CWV] Selfishly I just want to see him play. Love his nose for the ball and his understanding of the game. Would like to see him tighten up his perimeter D - has not been as good as in years past.
Somewhat concerned with the Kentucky/Heat model and its apparent contagion. Duke was never a one-and-done school, but they have apparently entered the arms race with Kentucky. IMO it would be very bad for college basketball if we had Kentucky, Duke, and other schools using the same star aggregation style win the title for a couple years in a row, because then the top talent would conclude that the only way to compete would be to, themselves, pool talent at traditional schools.
Finally, when discussing UConn with a Kentucky fan, I used a line from the Avengers (when Stark is conversing with Loki):
Kentucky Fan: "We have 5 all americans, a coach with 2 and a NC, the greatest recruiting class in the history of basketball, and the greatest fan base in the country."
Me: "We have Shabazz."
