Watching these NBA playoffs it's kinda surprising Marquette didn't do more in the late 2000s and early 2010s. Jae Crowder, Wesley Matthew's and Jimmy Butler are still playing solid to pretty damn good NBA basketball. That's 3 players who have been in the pros for roughly a decade. Their Marquette careers don't 100% overlap, but there's some. We've won NCAA championships with less NBA talent. Butler at times in his career hovered around a top 5 NBA player. Certainly top 10.

That BE was awesome. And when I was in hs Wade was at Marquette.
Same. Wade was drafted the summer before my senior year of HS. I don't watch much NBA, but Wade was one of my favorite NBA players when he was around. Heart of a lion.

The college basketball landscape, in general, is more fun when Marquette is good. Hat tip to Shaka Smart and the work he's put in so far.

yeah butler and crowder only played together for 1 season in 10-11 but the BE was a gauntlet. they went 9-9 and made it to the sweet 16. we also went 9-9 but made it a bit further in the big dance.
College hoops is a guard's game -- guys who can break down a defense and get their own, or generate consistent looks for their teammates are worth their weight in gold. And certainly there's no better example of that than the 2010-11 season, since I think we all remember which team won that year.

IIRC, that Marquette team beat us in Hartford that year.

Yes, and I believe they were seeded ahead of us in the BET. They also outperformed all but one BE school in the 2011 NCAA tournament.

Steve Novak, 41 pts in Marquette's first BE game in 2006, also had a 10 year NBA career.

I'll never forget this game, they ran us out of the gym

And then there was George Mason

Jimmy has never been a top 5 or top 10 player in the league lol but I get ya point, I remember sticks giving him the business at Marquette in ‘09
