Just a few comments from last night's SNY Broadcast:

1. Since this was SNY's last broadcast of UCONN Women's Basketball (Game Wise) for the season, let's
a. Congratulate Allen Bestwick and Meg Culmo on a job well done (again) this season. YES, they do call UCONN WBB Games and
we are supposed to have that "Home Team" feel, but Allen and specifically Meg, have called games (and players) as they we.
see. Both Positively and Negatively (which is should be, in my opinion). Have they held back calling out Geno at times? Yes, but
that is partially due to the culture of the entire UCONN WBB Program and where Geno is in the program. However, Meg has
done a great job in being critical on players, like her "Honesty" last evening, regarding Dorka's poor play. She, on several
occasions throughout the game, called out Dorka for playing out of position defensively. This honest commentary is
refreshing.

b. Another good job this season done by sideline reporter Maria Marino. Her poise and professionalism shined throughout the
entire season. Maria will be missed and we wish her nothing but the best at her new job. Maria leaves big shoes to fill

c. Gary Apple and the wonderful Kara Wolters, continue to give us great insights into the team, both pre-game and post-game.
I can only say that I would like for Kara to be more critically honest, when she sees flaws in Geno's coaching, similar to how
Kara professionally points out flaws in players performances during games. Again, this is partially due to the culture and Geno's
position and influence he has on the program

All in all a great season again by the SNY Broadcast Team

Gary and Kara are great. Meg Culmo is fine despite some people griping about her not being homer enough in recent games. Poor Allan is just lost though, but what do you expect when you tell a NASCAR commentator to go do basketball?

I get to see both pre and post-game shows on SNY.

But Meg also said that Dorka has played poorly the whole game which was not true..The 2nd half of the 2nd quarter Dorka was the only one that was playing well an also for a few mins in the 3rd quarter the same thing..Dorka had a bad game but she certainly did not play poorly the whole game as Meg said

Meg, wow, wow, wow, she said that many times. Cackling at silly things, when a replay shows her original call wrong never admits it. Will never question Geno, she sits with Kathy at games she isn't working. Ear!y in the game it looked like Geno had already quit sitting down looking down, body language matters. At least Maria asked why he's sat Nika with 3 fouls last night when against Villanova he didn't, she didn't get a real answer.

It is fair to be critical of various perceived shortcomings of this, that or the other SNY personalities.

They are not perfect, but I find them overall to be very good and far better than what we often see on other networks. (Ryan Ruocco and Rebecca Lobo are the best though, IMHO.)

The larger positive point I have to make about SNY, though, is just how as a network they treat UConn WCBB as a really big deal, and really go the extra mile with pre-game shows, post-game shows, specials, etc. They do not cut corners and are totally prepared and professional. It is gratifying that they give UConn WCBB the respect it deserves.

Look, I guess most of you really like Meg, but to me she can be really annoying. I don't like the tone of her voice, but overlooking that, I'm tired of her always saying "she got away with a foul", or "she should have been called for a foul" when talking about our team.

I look at Dorka and Caroline much the same. They both have the ability to take over a game offensively but when they are off they don't have the same impact defensively so they get the pressure of the "bad game" label. They both play extremely hard and both are extremely important to UCONN getting deep in the playoffs.

I like Meg for providing a basis for a fan to disagree with her while watching the game alone.
Although I often agree with her opinions, regarding that play, Dorka had just gotten a foul called on her during the previous play.
I figured that Dorka just didn't want to get another foul called on herself.
IIRC Edwards was closer to the basket, and Dorka also played too many minutes which slows her actions.
Meg gets paid to say something so she just blurts out her honest thoughts which is good.
Even though her sight lines may not always be the best, she does an admirable job overall.

I’m confused and need some help. With 1 minute left in the 2nd, Dorka was fouled and it was the 5th team foul. Why didn’t she shoot freethrows?

Especially after hearing other teams call some games, I've come to appreciate Bestwick and Culmo more. They are UConn's announcers -- no doubt about it -- but they call a good game. Culmo's Courtvision is a value-add, IMHO. I wish there were more of it. I was not a fan of Marino, who I thought did not bring a lot of insight to her reports. I do agree that it'll be interesting to see who fills that role next.

I found Meg really annoying last night. I've always liked her, but last night she did a fair amount of babbling. Also, why was she ragging on Dorka so much while not mentioning her injured ankle?

Wish there was a way to see the pre and post game stuff.
There is.. the UzzU app. I have it in MA and get all of SNY at any time, and a hundred (it seems) other sports channels. Someone mentioned it here last season, I tried it, love it, and renewed it in January.

We are very lucky we have SNY and their on air staff. Allen is OK, he does seem to enjoy doing the games. Meg and Kara bring an inside perspective to the team. Watch some of the Sec, or ACC games and tell me how bad we have it... Even some of the Fox games were pretty bad. Now that they have had some good ratings they might put more into the games next year.

As someone who lives on the west coast, I’m just grateful that I have access to all the sny games (although being able to get the pre/post game stuff would make it even better!). Thanks to all who put the broadcasts together, and especially to the network for valuing UCONN women’s basketball.

Dorks is a true HUSKIE. She gives her all.... and that is all I need. GO DORKA!, go Huskies!.
Where do I get that NIL # 14 Jersey!!! ??? (Does anyone have a link to jerseys for NIKA,
LLS, INES, and DORKA? ) Z

I get to see both pre and post-game shows on SNY.
I believe Centerstream was referring to Geno's pregame and postgame pressers and player commentary that are often difficult to find on YouTube. The portion of the SNY postgame which purports to provide Geno's postgame remarks actually only show a few minutes of what is normally about 25 minutes in all.

I noticed the same thing and had the same question.

Overall I find the SNY team does a good job and SNY produces an enjoyable broadcast. As opposed to the FOX and ESPN broadcasts which are unlistenable and usually are SEC-biased.

She is right nearly 100% of the time, from my perspective. I typically am already saying it to myself when she chimes in. If you are at the game with a knowledgable companion, you'd likely be sharing the same comment between you. She announces from a fan's perspective and lets the chips fall where they may. She is not from the 'see no evil, hear no evil' school of announcing.

Meg was correct on Dorka playing poorly, She might of made a couple of plays but was sleep walking on defense. She must be more aggressive and tough to help this team. But i agree with this."I'm tired of her always saying "she got away with a foul", or "she should have been called for a foul" when talking about our team. "

I hear yeah. One particular one that I recall was regarding Muhl having gotten away with a walk (I was at the game and it was obviously a walk), but fortunately wasn't called). Although it may be irritating, It is helps to put things into perspective for fans who see a walk by the other team that goes uncalled. Knowing Meg has some balance, gives her more credibility when she also points out that those instances when Uconn is getting hosed (i.e if Meg says it, it must be true)

Meg adds absolutely nothing to the broadcast. Her commentary is not at all insightful. She states the very obvious and offers simplistic opinions. Speaking for my wife as well, we’d enjoy the game much more without her commentary.

If you played a drinking game where you had to drink every time Meg said "What a block!" Tuesday night, you would have been pretty drunk by the end of the game.
