Lara is the one I want in a UConn uniform.
IMO Lara is Australia's choice for last shot at the end of a period. In the
GROUP STAGE of these FIBA tournament POINTS (MOV) are a tie-breaker
for the Re-seeding for the Qualifying ROUND. I noticed that Lara will often be
given the ball for the the "long range" shot as the seconds tick down. Thus, I don't worry about
Ms. Somfai's 3 point shooting percentage (which is very good) when I know that
she is the person taking that last (sometimes desperation shot). The
Sapphires have "faith" in LARA. SO DO I !! , GO Lara!!, GO SAPPHIRES,
COME TO UCONN!

I think she might be a last shot option for them for several reasons. First being quite tall for a three point threat, with the ability to get it off over small defenders. Second it is pretty easy for her to penetrate to mid range and then do a step back jumper, which she can get off against most defenders, and third she has the handle and size to take it all the way to the hoop against pretty tall defenders.

The triple threat types that can score from long range, have a mid range game, and can take it all the way are natural choices for taking the last shot.

She would make it two in UConn WBB team: one from Egypt and the other from Australia!

Most Australian HS level players (spent 3 years in Sydney and Melbourne) often mix it up with pros, developing a sense of toughness you don't always see in some young US athletes. Lara appears to have many of the attributes that you can't teach-tenacity, confidence, big play ability. Combined with a great offensive and rebounding skill set, I suspect UConn is booking some flights down under.

You guys know that she goes to school in Florida at IMG Academy, same school and team as Kelis Fisher, right?

I wonder who told them not to smile.

Lara is a great player, but I actually like her teammate on the U18 better (Saffron Shiels).
Saffron is ineligible for NCAA I think since she’s a part of the WNBL or something.

There's also Deniya Prawl, top row right. I don't know if Lara will return to IMG Academy, on the WWC U17 site it says Center of Excellence but on the site in question she's not there.

First Q Spain 15 Australia 11

OKEKE for Spain 6'4" is the REAL DEAL.
Half time SPAIN 36 Australia 25
Spain with a 13 -2 run where SPAIN
made AUSTRALIA Look very disjointed.
Spain : a three pointer, a steal of the
inbounds play for another two points
a steal, two points, another 2 points
on a nice transition basket and another
Aussie TURNOVER. Lara was taken out
at 3:30 in the second quarter with a shot
to the ribs, in pain. Lara returns to get
her THIRD FOUL on a illegal screen at 1:24
remaining in the QUARTER.
Austrailia is lucky to be down only by 11.
Stats for Lara: 8 minutes 17 seconds,
five points, one for five shooting,
3/3 from the foul line. Sara Okeke for
Spain: 12 points in 15 minutes but with
two steals, two blocks and all around
superior athletic play. Spain is
a COMPLETE TEAM with a college
level of physicality. GREAT HAND CHECKING!,
with a solid D and multiple steals. Australia
will have to make some adjustments at
the half. ONE GOOD PIECE OF NEWS: one of
the primary defenders of Lara has three
fouls, Monje for Spain. # 10 (she wears
glasses in the game.) If Spain wins it will set up a
very interesting game against CANADA in the SEMI.
Assuming Undefeated Canada easily handles Cinderella Finland ( 2-2 )
in the final Quarterfinal game.

Spain 71 Australia 58
Lara Stats: playing time: 18:9 seconds
ten points on one for 11 shooting 0/2 from
three point range 8/9 from the free throw line.
five rebounds no assists, THREE PERSONAL FOULS,
three Turn Overs, two blocks,, and an EFFICIENCY of three.
Spain had talent, speed, Sara Okeke, and good coaching.
Canada vs Spain will be VERY interesting. I'm guessing
that Canada has the offensive power to prevail. Canada
prevailed over Finland 82 - 44 in the other quarterfinal.

Lara attends school in Florida in the U.S., not Australia. She moved here late last year.

Multiple ties and lead changes. Japan up.
Japan with good 3 point shooting, smooth
transition basket, and excellent passing.
Some sloppy passing by Aussies. Lara
with her first foul.

Half TIME AUSTRALIA 33 Japan 31
Lara: nine minutes and 47 secs. of playing time. seven points
on 3/6 shooting 1/4 on her three pointers.
One foul, two assists, 4 rebounds - all defensive.
10. This is a FAST paced game with many
subsitutions by both teams... fourth Q energy may
be an issue. Japan Swarming on defense. Aussie
need to tighten up on their passes and time
clock managment. Japan's quickness and three
point shooting still a BIG issue.

Some stats: rebounds Australia 21 two offensive;
Japan 12 rebounds, two offensive. Japan with six steals to
Aussies one, and Japan with only two turnovers to
Aussies 11. The Three point shooting is rather
equal: Japan 35 % on 5/14 and Australia 33.3 % on
4/12. Assists are equal at SEVEN. My mind is on
who might run out of gas! But the Australians play
a long bench.. Hopefully the rebounding will compensate
for the steals by Japan and the Australian TURNOVERS.
The Turnovers are caused by the Japanese pressure
defense and Australian pass passes ( long passes stolen
by the Japanese ). As always who makes the half
time adjustments.
