GAME NOTABLES AND HIGHLIGHTS
PLANO - In a heated Zero Week battle on Friday night at Kimbrough Stadium, the Plano Wildcats stepped it up on defense in the second half to preserve a 14-7 victory over Lewisville (0-1).
Plano quarterback Richard Lagow threw for 184 yards on 7-of-13 passing and overcame an early interception to lead the Wildcats to victory.
Plano's defense limited Lewisville to fewer than 100 yards of offense in the second half and had a key interception with 3 minutes remaining in the game when the Farmers were threatening in the fourth quarter.
Lagow used his feet score in the waning seconds of the first half and Mitchell Hanson scored the go-ahead touchdown with 27 seconds remaining in the third quarter on a 21-yard reverse.
In the first half, each team had promising drives stall early with Lewisville fumbling in the red zone on its first possession and Plano being stymied on the Farmers' 1.
Another promising Lewisville drive ended with a punt deep in Plano territory, but the Wildcats failed to convert the opportunity.
Both running backs for each team carried the respective offenses. Lewisville's Deandre Brown had 91 yards on 16 carries to help the Farmers get out to a 7-0 lead on quarterback David Vasquez's 3-yard run with 3:06 left in the first half.
Plano responded later when quarterback Richard Lago took it in from 3 yards out with 6 seconds remaining to tie the game. A key 29-yard completion to Corbin Whitehair down to the Lewisville 2 keyed the score.
Brown finished with 126 rushing yards on 22 carries for Lewisville.
