Maybe he did. I mean I would need at least 2x the amount from Duke to play there compared to UConn, because god knows Scheyer hasn't proven he can help a player improve at all.

Right now, Hurley figured out the right formula before anyone else. Recruit high caliber HS recruits like Sanogo, Andre Jackson, Clingan, Karaban, Hawkins, Castle as your core. Supplement through the portal for complimentary players like Joey California and high impact plug and play guys like Newton and Spencer. NIL and the Portal have been immediate disruptors to the college game. We were fortunate enough to have a headcoach that was both experienced and young enough to embrace this. It literally chased legends like Jay Wright, K, and Roy Williams into retirement. I don't think older coaches wanted to deal with this huge shift in the game.

For context, Karaban is only unranked because he joined midseason. Most services had him 65-75 range before that.

Karaban being unranked doesn’t make sense. He was pretty consistently top 75 or so.

What was Duke’s or Kansas’ like?
In the past 3 years Duke has had 11 five stars enroll I believe. That is an insane number.

Ok, he wasn't to be found on the mid-season list either, but thanks for the context. I recall him ranked I'm the high 40's by 247.

Don't forget Karaban is only unrated because he enrolled early. He was around 80 IIRC. Possibly our most imporant recruit was one of the lowest rated.

He was criminally undervalued in HS and AAU. IQ and shooting are off the charts. Just because he can't touch his head to the rim doesn't mean he isn't a talent.

Especially as college standout. Even if he doesn't have the measurables the NBA loves in the college game he is a killer.
 
Some noise on X and Rupp Rafters that Brea might be taking a visit to Kentucky some time next week.
