If Kaleena had to miss more time than expected would she be able to redshirt this season since the injury was in the beginning of the season?

She could get a "redshirt" year IF the injury is season-ending.

If Geno and the staff are looking for new challenges they've got them now. I have every confidence they will find a way... and if Maryland, PSU and Duke are licking their chops they may be in for a rude awakening.
Geno stated that he wanted to see how team would react to some adversity. Well, I guess he got his wish.

Really glad KML's mother was here at the time to support her thru the initial scare and testing. Nothing like having your mom around when you need TLC. And Rosemary will keep KML working and on an even keel thru the rehab. Am I glad we have Rosemary and Dr. Tom?...you betcha!

This is the one drawback
Clearly there is no eta for KML. It could be a week, a month, after New Year's, next season, or never again. They have said nothing other than seeing how it goes for the next week. Nerve damage is tricky stuff. Unless it is a pinched nerve that they are able to relocate successfully via surgery, there isn't a real lot they can do except hope and pray. Hopefully, the nerve isn't permanently damaged and when the swelling goes down she is okay. It is way too early to be optimistic or pessimistic. The silence tells it all.
So now we know science can't help. I'm just going to pray for a speedy recovery.

Be careful what you wish for...
Prayers for successful outcomes for both kids. And rapid recoveries.

Good call. Unfortunately. Strange though, she was playing really well, so it didn't seem to bother her....at least while she was playing.
She actually said in an interview she didn't feel any pain when playing it was just after and sometimes before that she would be aware of it.

Some info on the injury:

When can I return to my sport or activity?

This condition is usually curable with appropriate treatment and often heals spontaneously. Complete healing may take up to six weeks, depending on the extent of injury. Rarely, symptoms may be permanent.
Thanks - and while there is that slim possibility for less than 100% recovery I suspect it is similar to other nerve impingement injuries where the 'less than 100%' is usually something like occasional numbness in fingers/toes, or phantom tingling. And those types of things shouldn't affect her ability to shoot efficiently. We talk about a shooter having a 'feel' but much of that deals with the whole body alignment and not with specific nerve endings.
I think it would be a very rare medical occurrence for KML to not recover in fairly short order to a degree that would be unnoticeable in terms of basketball skill.

She's young and in good shape and health so that should be a factor.
