I was just listening to a podcast segment between Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander discussing the game last night. At one point Norlander brings up the fact that it was Kimani who had the advanced scout on Illinois for last night's game. Illuminating stat: Illinois played 37 games this year, and were held under 65 only twice. Both times by us. Both times the scout for the game was handled by Kimani.

Go to the 13:40 mark to hear Norlander's comments on Kimani:

Yes, we have been amazingly lucky to have Luke Murray on our coaching staff over the last 5 years, and I wish him nothing but success at Boston College, except if they ever play us again in the future, of course.

That having been said, the time has also come for Kimani Young to get a shot at his own D1 coaching gig as well. In his 8 seasons as a coach at UConn he has proven, beyond a shadow of a doubt, to be one of the best assistants in the country. His defensive scouts in particular have been nothing short of accurate and devastatingly effective against our opponents, time and time again. He is also one of the best assistants at recruiting in the country - the list is quite long and impressive, including Jordan Hawkins, Stephon Castle, Adama Sanogo, James Bouknight from high school and Tristen Newton and Tarris Reed from the portal.

Also, I vividly remember the home game in 2022 when he stepped in for Danny after Danny got ejected late in the first half against Villanova and guided us to an improbable win... the first time we beat Nova in the Hurley era. Kimani did a great job that night getting us over that sizable hump at the time.

Selfishly, I hope he stays one more year as losing both him and Murray in the same year will leave a huge hole going into next year, even with Mike Nardi, Tom Moore and Mamadou Diarra still being here. However, I also realize that he has every right to go this year if the right job opens up for him.

Whenever that time comes, we can send him off knowing he has truly been one of the great assistant coaches of this era... and putting him together with Murray and Moore in particular has formed the best coaching staff in the country over the last 5 years, bar none.

Thank you Kimani for helping to set the standard for assistant coaches here at UConn!
