If his defense is up to par, he can stay on the floor. If his shots fall, he draws attention, which also helps the team. Defenses loosen when Hawkins and/or Polleys shots fall.

“He dribbled less. He was dribbling less laterally. He was playing in a straight line. I think he played off his jump shot more, and if he does that, he will have a lot more nights like tonight.”

I think this quote is important. When Hawkins doesn't over dribble and is just a North to South one he is more effective. If the lane or shot isn't open just pass the ball back. Don't try to create something by probing as his dribbling leaves a lot to be desired at this stage.

Talking about defense his block on the Georgetown player in the second half was sweet and showed his ups.

Hmmm…I wondered about that when I read it, and I’m pretty sure the word “here“ was not part of the quote when I posted the article because I would not have deleted it, and I copied and pasted it from the article (and added the brackets for context). But it does make more sense, and it’s how I took the intent of the quote irrespective.
It definitely got changed. Must have been a misquote. Here is the reporters original post:

Not worried about Hawk. He`ll average 20ppg next season and be CPOY and an all american. Absolutely NO DOUBT about it. I know people have compared him to ray but to me hes Jeremy Lamb 2.o

I loved his aggressiveness in this last game. He was shot ready and as a result he hit a good percentage of his 3s. That move where the defender thought he was going to shoot again and fell down, then Hawkins drove and passed it off to a big for an easy layup was beautiful.

Early in the season you could see Hawkins just kinda running around the court to certain spots. Several other posters besides me had the same observations. He just didn't understand this isn't HS where you can catch the ball and then decide to dominate the player guarding you.

The article mentions running hard to a spot and being in the shooting position. That's what he has to do in college. Be ready to punish as soon as he touches the ball. Like many others have said, just watch tapes of Rip and Ray and see how the moved with purpose and had feet set when they touched the ball. It absolutely kills the defenses ability to hedge a wing defender against entry passes to Sanogo.

If Sanogo ever gets good enough to recognize not just the double but how to pass out of the double to the opposite wing, watch out. Defense doesn't have time to rotate quick enough.

Yeah I wonder if it was a misquote or he meant, “one of the best wings at UConn”
Still, Ray Allen, Rip Hamilton? That’s rather lofty territory.

Worth noting how much better of a team we are when Hawkins is playing well. That stroke is so sweet.
Fully agree, if we get Auburn or Georgetown Hawkins on a consistent basis this team is legit title contender

If you read the article at the end the quote is “When it’s all said and done, he’s going to be one of best wing players that has ever played here,”
ok, that makes sense
but damn there were a lot of great wings that came through here. what do you have to do to get get your name up in the rafters?

In case you were wondering about the thread title here is the quote.

“When it’s all said and done, he’s going to be one of best wing players that has ever played here,” Young said.

I believe that.

And just to be clear: When I titled the thread, the word “here” was not included in the quote in the article. I do believe it was intended.

Kimani (and this staff) know the buttons to push with Jordan and what he responds to.. Whatever it takes for him to reach his potential. Still a young dude.

I hear a lot of Ray Allen comparisons, but he reminds me a little more of Jeremy Lamb.

as a college player? Not at all. He reminds me of neither. But if I was forced to choose, his game is closer to frosh Ray than frosh Jeremy.

"Just Hawk is sufficient. 'The Hawk' is a bit formal"

If Polley or Hawkins or better both get hot in the tournament this team can make a deep run.
The starting five will hold there own but the bench
will determine how far we get.
If one gets 15- 18 or combined 21- 24 we will be a difficult matchup.
The bench on this team has scoring potential we haven’t seen since 2004
Keep hoping bench scoring is the difference between good and great for this team.
The psychological effect on a team that plays hard for 10 minutes and the game is close, subs made and in minutes their down double figures as three’s fall is devastating,
Call down the thunder of Rashad Anderson
Polley is the X-factor here because of his overall skill level, experience as a 5th year Senior and the fact that he is 6' 9". He is a natural mis-match on the court most nights if his head is in the game and he is focused. He should be much more than a 3 point specialist and I think is focus on the 3 takes away from his overall other strengths. Polley has descent handle for a guy his size can hit the 15 to 20 footers and mid-range at time. He is even effective driving in the paint in spots. I find that the guards generally only look for him on the perimeter but this is something that should be explored further offensively,
