I firmly believe Kelly will win a NC at ND and, if he stays there for the long term, multiple national championships. Alabama took ND to the woodshed, and their level of talent was obvious.

I would bury P - and all of you - in shallow graves if it meant getting Kelly to coach at UConn.

I wouldn't even bother to kill anyone - you'd all be buried alive.

I hear the Chinese do that. In 1936, Chiang Kai Shek took 6 of the most renowned posters (err writers) and did just that.

I don't. He will never win a NC.

I agree, not at Notre Dame anyway, their odds of winning a national title get MUCH longer the second a playoff got introduced. In the BCS era they could do what they did this year: sneak into a national title game based on the fact that the voters still think it's 1977... and in one game anything can happen. That's not going to be the case much longer.

This isn't a rebirth for Notre Dame... this is their swan song.

They had a good year. They were probably somewhere between the 10th & 15th best team in the country this year. They fought hard and grinded out tough wins against Purdue, Michigan, BYU, and Pitt.

You'd be under three feet of earth before your mom could get halfway through helping you Google my address.
Sure but once she had it, where could you hide? That woman is relentless. You'd spend the rest of your brief life looking over your shoulder. You don't tug on Superman's cape. You don't spit into the wind. You don't pull the mask off the ol' Long Ranger and you don't mess with HFD's mom.

I agree... and if they have this kind of year again they're still going to get voted into a playoff game... but they'll have to win a couple of times to win a title.

Notre Dame is really a victim of their history. They really should have better teams... but they hire sub par coaches... recruit players that aren't 5* no matter what the recruiting services say... and everyone pats them on the back in the offseason and preseason. I think the only thing they might really have gotten right in the last 20 years is the Brian Kelly hire.

Given that they've been left for dead the past 15 years, and had a succession of very bad coaches, the fact that Kelly was able to turn things around in 3 years is pretty impressive. Gotta think this is going to help recruiting A LOT.

Kelly and sending folks to the grave in the same post. I see what you did there.

ND's schedule also sets up nicely for next year -- possible that their only top 20 opponents are vs Oklahoma and @Stanford. They probably wont have the same luck they had this year, but another top 10 finish seems within reach.

Wrong. If Kelly stays at ND he will be able recruit talent equal to any top program. Anybody who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves. He got them to NC game in 3 years. do you really believe that's the limit of their potential?

I actually think the book is still out on Kelly and recruiting. He's won everywhere, for the most part, with someone else's players.... which is impressive in it's own way.

I'll go on record as saying that Kelly will be a better recruiter on a continuing basis than either Weis or Willingham. I also think if he stays he'll probably make the playoffs consistently as long as the conferences allow it. What I don't think is that it will be easy for him to win NCs. I do not think Notre Dame recruits at quite the same level that Alabama, Florida, LSU, Arkansas, and a non-sanctioned USC recruits at. I put them just below that...

Some people are just ridiculous with how they let their personal feelings cloud otherwise sound judgement. He took Cinci to multiple BCS games, it's kind of silly when people say he can't be more successful at ND. I don't know that he'll win a NC, since that takes a lot of things to go just right, but he'll have them in the discussion more often than not. It will be interesting to see what Kelly's ND program looks like in another 3-4 years. Saban has his program in place. He has his players, they're on board with his philosophy and game planning, and the results spoke for themselves. Kelly's still basically playing with someone else's players and his team is still a work in progress. This year they had a few things bounce their way to go undefeated, but it happened and they deserved to be there.

I am not a ND fan in the least, but the fact that there is any criticism for Kelly's coaching job is a joke and those who are have clouded judgement because of distain for ND. Lets not forget this team was unranked by the AP in pre-season and #24 by USA Today. You can armchair QB and criticize all you want, but this team was not expected to be where they ended up and had what many thought was the toughest schedule in the country. They went 12-0 which is all you can control as a team. Now their schedule was "soft" and I guess it is their fault that the those overrated teams did not perform on the field. He has done a better job at ND than some other big coaching names who fell flat on their face.

This ND team is simply not a championship caliber squad. This is hardly a reflection on Kelly.

Thankfully we only have one more year of this nonsense. Can't help but wonder what this game would be like if the other Kelly was coaching against Saban.
Have to agree here. How many games did ND scrape by to get a win at the end. Showed a composed team certainly..but not a powerhouse by any means.
A wide right by a Pitt FG kicker that goes thru puts them in a lower bowl.

I think Kelly is a very good coach, but I think the most under-reported story of this season was: this wasn't a great year in College Football. There weren't any truly great teams. This it type of season when a decent team could get hot, get a few fortunate bounces, and wind up in a title game. That Bama team that won last night would not beat any of the past six national champions on a neutral field in my opinion. ND beat one really good (relative term) team all year (Stanford). Stack this year's final top 10 against and final top 10 in the past five seasons. Tell me if this one stacks up. I think ND's chances of winning a title end next year. The coming playoff and their lack of a conference title game will be major obstacles for them.

No bogus pass interference call against sPitt and no OT. With lot of close games a few calls will get you to win a lot of close games. Not once, but twice the refs tried to keep Uconn from scoring against ND and Uconn still scored - that's how ND wins so many close games.
