Should be an interesting handshake line, particularly if Breanna is on the US squad. ;)

If Kia Nurse is with the Canadian Team playing games, how is she going to classes at UCONN to be eligible to play thus year?

I'm sure they figure it out. Stewart might be in the a similar situation.

Good question, though it is the NCAA after all where attending classes is optional. As athlete-students say: "we ain't come to play school." Any normal student that misses a month of classes generally would have to take a W for the semester.

Maya did the same thing 4 years ago. I believe she was the national scholar athlete of the year, so it didn't hurt her. :)

school doesn't start til September... coming in the summer is an option but with UConn's tradition 99.5% come in the summer. she's eligible because she passed her HS classes. doing things in the summer is just to get a jump on the college lifestyle.

I don't know if other schools demand this... this may help separate UConn from the rest

Doing the summer school means that the players can take a lighter course load during the year, so most college athletes try to do at least one if not both summer school sessions every year. If they make a USA team that may screw it up for the year or for one of the sessions. Kia's situation will be a little harder as she will miss a bunch of classes at the start of her freshman year, but hopefully she will get a few weeks of class before heading off to Turkey so she at least has the starting point. For Williams, her HS graduation messed up the first summer session, but I think she is taking classes for the second session.
