When you play on a team with Stewie, MoJeff and Morgan, you can expect to win lots of games, but not get many headlines. Then, when they graduate, Katie Lou, Gabby and Napheesa take over their winning ways and dominate the headlines. Kia Nurse loves the winning, but could care less about the fame. Just win, win, win..! At 99-1 during her career, Nurse has done just that and has been consistent game in, game out, season after season. ;) Consider:

1. Kia scored 399 and 354 points in her freshman and sophomore seasons. This year, she is already at 305 points, just 23 games in. Her 12.6 pts per game is a career high & she recently passed 1,000 points at UConn. :D

2. Her assist totals for the first two years were 108, then 104. This season, Nurse is already at 98, with the stretch run still to come. For her career, Kia sports a healthy 2.04 assist to turnover ratio.

3. Geno has increased Kia's minutes every season, from 25.0 per game, to 28.3 and now, a team leading 32.4 every game. She slides comfortably between the point and the 2 guard, depending on who else is on the floor, giving Geno maximum flexibility.

4. Nurse is a tenacious defender with 194 career defensive rebounds and 132 career steals. At 6 feet tall, Kia is still quick enough to guard smaller guards and strong enough to switch on taller wings.

5. As a very reliable 3 point shooter, Nurse has made 53, 51 and now 47 threes from beyond the arc. This season her accuracy from three is up to 42.7%, in between KLS's 43% and Saniya's 42.1%.

6. Her hard driving style to the basket has resulted in 234 free throw attempts, of which she has made 77.4% (181-234). Her sweet pull up jumper makes her dangerous at any distance
from the basket.

Geno recently commented Kia has had the "the most difficult job on the team and she has handled it beautifully." That praise from the boss is better than any headline..!! :)

Go Kia..!!
Go Huskies..!!

Because, that's who she is & what she does for teammates & fans. She is smiling 80% of the time when she isn't dribbling, shooting or guarding. Also, I find that I smile 90% of the time that I see her smiling.:)

Dare we still note that Kia has ZERO losses in games she's started? Anyone else in that category?

I was going to add Gabby, Napheesa, and KLS as well. However, Kia has started every game of the streak except the one or two times she may have sat out on Senior Day to defer to a graduating Senior. Kia has started more games than Gabby, Napheesa, and KLS during the streak and if she continues to start the remainder of this year and next, and UCONN keeps winning, she alone will have set a WCBB record that likely can never be broken. As it is, she currently holds the WCBB record as a starter. In fact. if the streak were (God forbid) to end this year or next, she would still retain sole possession of that record no matter what since the streak will likely have ended for Gabby, Napheesa and KLS as well. Walker will have a chance. She'll need to start her 2nd game as a Freshman and win every game as a starter until she graduates if Kia's (and the team's success) continues. Not bad for a kid who questioned whether or not she was good enough to play for UCONN. Of course she's smiling. She may not win any awards but she has something (the streak) no one will likely ever take from her.

Nurse came off the bench in 3 games her freshman season, the latest being against Memphis when UCONN was 28-1. Technically, her consecutive wins streak in games played where she was selected as a starter is at 71 games and counting.

KLS as far as I know started the last 22 games of her freshman season before sitting out injured in the title game. Her consecutive win streak in games played where she was selected as a starter is at 45 games and counting, but she'll likely pass Nurse her senior year assuming both start every game for the rest of their career.

Nurse's record as a starter will likely be the best ever since she hasn't lost as a starter and will likely finish her career with around 150 wins as a starter to zero losses.

Right now the leader for best win-loss record in a career is Maya Moore who went 150-4, but Chong is going to smash that as long as UCONN loses fewer than 3 games the rest of the year. UCONN has gone 139-1 during her 4 years and she could potentially finish 154-1. KLS/Collier could trump that by having undefeated careers, which actually seems probable at this point in time although anything can happen.
