Khamenia to UConn, per CTinsider

Duke podcast has a little meltdown over the news.

I was curious about the situation there but this guy didn't shed much light on it. We need to remember sure we hate puke with a passion. NK may be leaving on great terms or he was very unhappy with the situation there. Regardless, I'm sure it's difficult for him to leave his teammates. In the end, UConn wins!!!

Nik Khamenia's parents are from Belarus. Alex Karaban's father is from Belarus. Not only that but both played basketball at a club level there. Belarus is not such large country, chances are there is connection there. In addition, Nik’s dad coaches basketball at a college level.

That dude from locked on has been proving us doubters wrong!!!! Ha. I trust him. Especially after hearing his last show.
He seems to be a good source
Maybe he does, but I'm not convinced. I would have read those same tea leaves and made the same leap. I don't think it was a risky claim for him to make, low risk high reward for claiming credibility.

I am sure Nik is shaking in his boots about his Brotherhood revocation lol. Whatever will he do?

Between Khamenia and Freeman, getting Nik is way better. It's fun watching these people melt down. Cuse is just "Aww shucks, I don't blame him".

The other thing that guy said is they spend most of their money in recruiting and not portaling. Good luck with that long term.

Looked up some tape on Khamenia and i must say two things 1. He has a far more versatile game than i thought as hes got a nice post game, way better handle than i thought, has some moves to get by defenders and is a really good passer. I think i can see some PG in his future.
2. Scheyer absolutely wasted this kids versatility and with a summer of working out under a coach thats going to utilize him in a way that allows his talents to show this kid may be a star next season from day 1 if he really takes to Hurleys system.

Does Khamenia coming aboard fill anyone's emotional void left behind by Alex's departure?

I think so too - maybe Hurley noticed something when we played. Scheyer has been gifted two NPOY frosh, seems to be the only way he knows how to win. He piles in the 5 stars, happy taking the excess in to maximize their potential. 10-11 of the 14 kids ranked ahead of him will go in first half of the draft.

Even better, he’ll fill the emotional void for all fans coping with Alex leaving.

2 for 2 last week, prior to Saturday’s Official Commit announcements. A good source is one that’s right because they knew something the general public did not. And the source’s name is not mentioned. Nik’s dad’s history playing for former UConn basketball/baseball player Tom Penders at George Washington, initially helped make UConn a comfortable name. Then Hurley, UConn’s winning culture, and NIL $’s took over from there. Knowledge of the lunch was key affirmation too along with certain other things, but I only shared the lunch puzzle piece detail after someone else revealed it because of it might prompt an increase NIL counter offer. So expect Hurley, given the NIL environment, to be as transparent about visits as he is about injury updates. Lots of public confusion.

One thing both Nik and Mullins had in common is their dads were very knowledgeable about the game - so they could understand the method and long term value of what might seem to be Hurley’s tough you have to earn it madness to certain handlers, Casual Fans, and social media types.

We probably should pin this, but it's pronounced "hah-MEN-yuh". So when you're making up your nicknames, they have to rhyme with Hey Ya! instead of Mania.
Too late.. this is in my head now

I am as big a Husky fan as the next, but coping and emotional void are strong words... please anyone seek help if you need it. It's only college hoops and should not be causing that much distress.

We’re calling him the to make it easier on everyone. Or “Nik” works, too.

I’m sure this will be talked about but what about his defense and rebounding? In fact what about team rebounding last season vs this?

Will now rewatch the Duke game to get more familiar with his game. Before knowing Mullins was truly returning, I saw him playing the 3. Now it appears he will be the 4, unless Mullins moves over to the 2? Will have a better idea once Solo makes his decision. I still would love to get have a true power forward. With Demery, Khamenia and Mullins, we have the perimeter covered. It would be fun to watch us dominate down low, drive to the basket, create free throw opportunities, and then stab them with the dagger from deep. So much reliance from the perimeter hurt us this year. Too much fouling as well.

Watch the videos posted above. At Duke all he did was be a spacer and shoot open 3s. His game was not used to his capabilities.

Probably one of the main reasons he transferred. Get out of the Scheyer system that caters to 1 and done freshmen and instead join Hurley's system where there is no alpha, and it's a true team system.
