I was talking about Storrs. Why? Because the post I responded to compared it to B12 locales. I've already stated the 3 out of the way places I've been to as being below Storrs. I've been to the cities you mention (Dallas, Houston) which I consider decent destinations. When people were discussing Houston last spring, I was one of the people saying that I was positively impressed and/or surprised by it. I specifically mentioned the out of the way locales as being bleak. As in, much of the town seemed composed of shotgun shacks. Big country western bars south of campus, but otherwise one restaurant in the center of town. The kind of town center you might see a tumbleweed roll down. North of campus, a strip of McMansions, oil money. As for Ames, when I passed through, they were super excited about the Krispy Kreme that came into town. And yes, it too was flat and bleak all around. I don't know what to tell you but I suspect you wont be seeing many fans at away games at these 3 places.
