Not only does every major state U in the south play FBS, but most of the lesser schools do (like Memphis, Southern Miss, La Tech). There's HS talent everywhere. They live for Friday HS football as well. Now UConn. Only went FBS a little over a decade ago. It's local peers are UMass, which just went FBS a few years ago, UNH, Maine, UVM, URI and the SUNY schools. Buffalo plays FBS football I guess, but has never done anything. Ergo, our region doesn't like college football, doesn't support it and UConn cannot possibly succeed at it or garner any meaningful support. That's what I think is going on with both fans and writers. Switch to basketball and now we're in a recruiting hotbed, a place where basketball thrives and was invented.
