One of the things that I have had a hard time understanding over the past 24 hours is how many people (perhaps not here on the Boneyard, but in the media) that have been dogging UConn for not getting someone with more experience; with more pedigree.
So I got mad, and spent time looking it up. Here is the list of coaches that Kevin Ollie has studied for:
Don Nelson
Chuck Daly
Rick Adelman
Larry Brown
Byron Scott
Tim Floyd
Isiah Thomas
George Karl
Nate McMillan
Paul Silas
Jim O'Brien
Maurice Cheeks
Kevin McHale
Scott Brooks
and of course, Jim Calhoun
Yes, this is Kevin's first head coaching job. But he was our head recruiter, and he has studied under some of the best in the business, in my opinion. If the idea out there is that he doesn't have the know-how, the x's and o's, or the pedigree, then that is just plain bull$#it. I can't wait for him to prove them all wrong!!!
