This may be the most consensus I have ever seen around a UConn ranking when we weren't preaseason 1 or 2. Pretty much EVERYONE thinks UConn is the 16th best team in the country.

Edit: When did Columbia get good?

Nice to see we only have two (barely) sub-200 teams in conference and 5 teams are in the top 50

I wonder if Harvard's emergence has helped elevate the rest of the Ivy League to respectability. Yale, Princeton, Brown, and Columbia are all sub-200, and only Cornell appears to really suck.

In the old Big East but it was pretty rare (maybe 1, possibly 2 teams a season out of 16) to have a sub-150+ Pomeroy team. 5/11 isn't a great ratio. Had 4/10 last year. Not coincidentally, newbies ECU and Tulane are sub 150, although Tulsa looks pretty good.

Cumulatively it puts AAC 8th, below the A-10 in quality (AAC was above A-10 last year in 7th in final ratings last year) with as much separation between AAC and the worst Power 6 as AAC and Missouri Valley (with the West Coast and Mountain West within that margin). Welcome to a mid-major conference boys!

His rankings are far better come February when the season has been played out a bit. Too much turnover in college sports for an accurate preseason ranking.

Check out the new AAC Basketball blog post on his rankings and the conference http://goo.gl/X1t7zu

An interesting part of his rankings is he weighs players returning and top 100 RSCI recruits. His formula does not consider transfers/juco/recruits outside of the top 100, they just get a replacement level ranking. This is what I think lowered the UConn rating a bit. As the season progresses, I think you'll see the team jump a bit more.

Having Cuse as a fringe top 10 team is absurd. Look at their roster! It's terrible. In addition they have this case hanging over their head.

In regards to advanced stats, the only thing worse than someone being dismissive out of hand is someone who thinks they are infallible. KenP is a must read but the rankings are pointless until about the midway point, and they tend to overrate the same types of teams every year.

I would not say that stuff publicly if you want people to respect your opinion.

His preseason rankings are almost as much of a guess as anyone else's. They are kind of a joke. Even his end of season rankings should be.read more as ranges than anything.

Any preseason ranking is worthless.

Historically his offensive and defensive efficiency rankings come February and March have been an incredible predictor for post season success.

Pre-season polls are surprisingly accurate (whether it is KenPom or media).

In his own words... link

we've had weaker schedules in the past and while in the BEAST, if only because we played a much weaker bottom third.

Kevin has, out of necessity really, replaced several chump games we played in December with quality OOC opponents

I don't think our SOS will be a problem, and we'll have plenty of chances to showcase our talent to the country, which may be more important than just playing a tough conference schedule. More exposure nationwide, and we can't be discounted because someone perceives our conference as overrated.

There is no doubt in my mind about a few things.
1) We will continue to be UConn
2) We will continue to be a national powerhouse
3) We will continue to recruit top players
4) The AAC will improve immensely with time and with our exposure pulling them up (we still have a decent group at the top)

UCONN carried that Big Conf since 90 and" pulled up" just a backstabbing bunch

f em

current conf is mirage

UCONN should feign independence and sched at least 1 club from ea of p5 every yr and please put some on home docket

also; all baby teams should be put to bed early

fill schedule with fun teams in 75-150 range so stadia are sro, espec. xl

UCONN should also be putting together ea yr a foosball stadia hoop event; prefer dome (any except carrier cemetery crematorium cover); to max money and media(remember alcindor vs big e)

with a sched of fun; increase prices for admission and watch doze tikets goze

start work to get network bigger than that nyc one to carry games UCONN style and earn a decent payout; gotts to compete with big boyz means real dollars, not aac $

We probably jumped 20 or so spots during that 11. It doesn't take a stat major to realize that our regular season numbers (which are a majority of the measure) and our postseason numbers were very different that year.
