Check out the box score. Bench is +10, +20, and +17. Kemba is -7 and only one starter has a positive +/-. Weird.

Even if he's a -7 that team needs someone who can put up points to hang in there with Miami's several options and just as we've come to expect Kemba gets that done big time!

Most of that was the first half, Hornets were down 10 in the first quarter when they started going to their bench and then went ahead in the second quarter by almost 10.
In the second half, Heat went on a big run to cut the lead to two in the 3Q and Kemba made a couple big baskets there. Then in the 4Q, the lead was cut to 1 and he scored 7 straight to push it back to 8 (and then got the next two Charlotte baskets too for 11 straight points for his team).
On the down side, he gave plenty of ammo to the people who don't like him. He took 28 shots and had one assist (he had 29 FGA and three assists in G2 as well). And he dominated the ball and threw up a prayer on the last possession, which could have been a damaging play to his reputation if the Heat got the rebound and scored at the other end. With Batum out, he probably needs to facilitate a lot better if they are going to win the series.
But I think yesterday he stepped up huge in those key spots when the Heat had momentum, which should be the biggest takeaway. Charlotte was hitting the wall a bit late and he carried them over the finish line.

With Batum sidelined, this was one of those games where Kemba just had to get enough shots up to keep the offense above water. That's obviously going to come at the price of efficiency, but sometimes the hallmark of a great player is being able to grind out points when it isn't pretty.
