The definition of a great basketball player is that they make their teammates better. Last year, Kemba made all of his teammates look better. This year, without Kemba, the team is floundering. Despite winning the NCAA tourney last year, UConn is still a very young team, dominated by freshman and sophomores. Don't get me wrong, UConn is a very talented team, but this is one of the first UConn teams that I can remember in which the whole is less than the sum of the parts. Which brings me back to Kemba.
Kemba's play last season will go down as the greatest season that a UConn Husky has yet produced. He was the glue, the player that not only produced at a consistently high level, but also made his teammates much better. This season just magnifies what we saw last season.
