Kelly Faris | The Boneyard

Kelly Faris

Thank you so much for posting!!!! One of my many "favorite" UConn WBB players. Love her work ethic and the way she played. Great smile. Probably ran hard every single play of her entire basketball career :)

There was never a question about who would guard the opposing team's best player: Kelly.

One of the players that stuck with the program and improved every year. Kudos to her.
I think about this a lot, and not just with regard to Kelly. For an 18 yr old to move far away (like from Indiana, or Maryland, or Minnesota or Ecuador) for college, away from any family support system, this is a real challenge. The coach who would recruit them really needs to provide a support system, especially if he and CD are going to provide a lot of ‘tough love.’ And we see a lot of parents traveling to show their support too. But above all, it requires careful recruitment and genuine insight into the personalities who will thrive in such circumstances. Kelly and Ash are similar because they are exactly those kinds of kids. And they are who Geno looks for. Tough minded young people who thrive on independence and new challenges. They aren’t easy to find, but this is his genius.

One of my (of very many) favorites, too.

Fun trivia - she had a quadruple-double while in high school. Her Indiana high school team won the state championship each of her four years, and then UConn won the national championship her freshman year, so she was part of "the best of the best" for 5 consecutive years.

Exactly. Hard enough to adjust to college life away from home, as it is. To do it playing a sport with these demands makes it a doubly hard.
