Some of you may remember the Purple People Eater defense of the Minnesota Vikings of the 1960s and 1970s. That was back when the Vikes played outdoors. The defense, which set NFL records, was anchored by DT Alan Page. In 1971, he became the first defensive player selected as the league MVP. I recall watching a game that season in which, on 3 successive plays, Page shed his blocker(s) and tackled two running backs and the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. It was as if he knew the snap count and play call. Last night, Kelly was in the same zone. She knew where Duke's passes were going, where the missed shots were going, where the offensive players were going. She played with an amazing sense of anticipation and ferocity. Last night's game will be known as "The Kelly Faris Game."
Note that defensive players can be MVPs!
